Chapter 42:

Brooklyn's POV:

"You need to keep her away she must not know what is going on." My father whispered to his beta. Something was wrong all morning and I couldn't figure out what it was.

"Who must not know?" I asked walking over. They both stared at me surprised.

"Brooklyn? I thought your mother took you back to the house?" My father asked confused. I frowned as I have not seen my mother.

"I haven't seen her. She is with Jax." I said.

"Oh well I have business to attend to. You have a checkup today." He said nodding to my bulging stomach. I looked down and touched my stomach. Something is not right.

I walked away and out to the living room and grabbed my phone. No response from Ryder yet. I dialled his number and listened to the dial tone impatiently.

"Brooklyn." Ryder said. His voice was raspy as if he had just woken up.

"What is going on?" I demanded quickly.

"Brooklyn. You need to calm down it isn't good for you to be all nervous and paranoid." He warned cautiously.

"Something is going on and no one will tell me." I said getting upset.

"Brooklyn. Everything is fine. We decided to stay the night, we are fine. I know you have an appointment today. I need you to go to it okay? I will be back home tonight." He said.

"Okay. fine." I said wiping under my eyes.

"Don't cry." He said.

"I'm not crying." I said sniffling.

"Yes you are. Just calm down. Have a nice bath and you will feel better, don't worry." He assured.

"Okay." I said tucking a few strands of hair behind my ears.

"I love you." He said.

"I love you too." I said softly. I hung up and tucked my phone into my back pocket.

"Are you okay, mom?" A small voice asked. I turned and Ella stood staring at me worriedly.

"Yea I'm fine. I was just checking to make sure daddy is okay." I said. She walked over and wrapped her arms around my waist. I smiled and picked her up and cradled her to my shoulder.

"One day a boy will have this effect on you." I laughed and she made a disgusted face.

"Boys are gross." She laughed. I smiled and kissed her head.

Ryder's POV:

I felt the strength flood back into my body and I sat up carefully. I felt nauseous as all the blood rushed to my head. The door suddenly opened and the Queen of demons flowed in gracefully. Her long lilac dress swept the floor. Her brown hair was wavy with two braided pieces wrapped around her head. She smiled warmly at me.

"Alpha Ryder. A pleasure." She said her voice smooth.

"My lady...how can I help you?" I said sarcastically. She smiled at my wit.

"You are harbouring a snow elf. Ella." She said and I stared at her hard and cold.

"And?" I said for her to go on.

"The snow elves have moved to a realm that was declared to never be accessed by the old Gods. Now they reside there. She would know how to get there."

"She is a child. She wouldn't know how to get into the forbidden city." I said.

"Of course she does. They need a snow elf with the affinity of spirit to open the doorway. Her affinity is for that." She continued to smile and I frowned even more.

"As I said she is a child-" I stopped in my train of thought and stared at her confused.

"You are the ones killing snow elves." I said and she smiled.

"Of course. Who do you think took the potion from Xavier? Do you know how handy it is to have a potion to annihilate the whole vampire race?" she laughed.

"Of course. You were the ones who started the war, you don't know the meaning of peace."

"I believe in power, Ryder. Success, ambition..." She said in a daze.

"Ever read Macbeth and his tragic flaw of ambition?" I smirked she laughed unamused.

"I don't believe in tales, Ryder. I believe in reality. I believe in strengthening the demon race. I have no quarrel with the werewolf race. We just want the girl."

"Yea well you won't get her. That is my daughter you are speaking of." That made her laugh hysterically.

"You are willing to give up your existence? Your family? For a snow elf?" She asked. I growled harshly.

"Touch my family and I will rip your head from your shoulders." I threatened.

"You think so? You have no alliances to match the demon world, Ryder."

"I am not without grace however. I will give you this." She began.

"I will give you ten days to hand over the girl. Hand her over and nothing will happen. If you don't, well we will have to get her ourselves won't we?" She smiled. I frowned as they walked towards me. I went to move but a needle was stuck in my neck and a bag over my head.
