"I'm sorry, Mr. Joss, I don't know who your daughter is."
Eli heard the conversation from where he was sitting. Once he realized who was at the door, he slowly got off of the couch, set his bowl down on the wood floor, and sprinted straight for Nick's bedroom.
After strings of curses, Nick started getting another migraine. "My apologies sir, have a nice day." Nick shut the door before Eli's dad could get another word out. Nick let out a breath of relief and walked back into the living room to see that Eli was no longer on the couch. He figured that Eli had hidden after Nick indirectly warned Eli that his dad was at the door. Nick had no clue as to where Eli could have been. He walked down the hall, entered his room, and walked to the place that he always hid as a kid. The closet, figuratively and physically.
He opened the closet doors to see Eli hugging his knees to his chest and heavy tears flowing from his light blue eyes.
Nick felt his heart clutch at the sight before him. Like any good guardian, he sat in front of Eli and waited till Eli stopped shaking. Once Nick realized that Eli wasn't going to stop having his panic attack on his own, Nick sighed and wrapped his arms around Eli in an attempt at a hug. After Eli had finally stopped shaking and crying, Nick sat back as Eli stared at the ground.
"Hey, kid-"
"I'm sorry."
Nick raised his left eyebrow in confusion, "Sorry? Sorry for what?"
Eli sighed and straightened his posture. "I'm sorry for being so helpless, I want to be a man but how can I when I'm not even manly at heart?"
Nick groaned and hit Eli in the back of his head.
"Ow! What the hell dude?"
"You shut the hell up, being manly doesn't mean not being able to cry or not being able to feel sad emotions. It means being a nice guy or someone who doesn't push stereotypes. You are extremely manly whether you have gotten your top surgery or not, whether you legally changed your name or not, and especially whether you cry or not. I want to hear you say that you are the manliest man ever, right next to the cop in cloudy with a chance of meatballs."
Eli laughed a bit at the last statement, "I am the manliest man ever, right next to Earl."
Nick smiled.
The nice moment was soon ended by banging on Nick's front door. Eli flinched and instinctively clutched onto Nick's arm, hands gripping the white sleeve. Nick looked back at Eli and spoke in a whisper, "Kid, I have to answer the door or the person will end up breaking it down."
"Nick, I guarantee you that that is the stupid f*cker who I live with. Don't answer the door, please."
"Sorry kid, just stay hidden and I'll talk with him." Nick walked towards his room door when he had finally got Eli to let go of him. He reached for the doorknob but froze when he heard Eli screaming. Nick swiftly turned around to see Eli clawing at the floor, trying to keep himself from falling into the hole that had opened up in the ground.
Nick ran over to Eli and tried pulling him out of the hole but the hole seemed to be just a bit more strong which was enough to make Nick lose his grip on the ground himself and fall into the hole as well. Unlike Eli, he had no one to grab ahold of him.
Nick shut his eyes closed, prepared for either a fall to his death or just an endless, black abyss that would swallow him up and leave him to fall for many millenniums to come.
Though, the last thing Nick saw when he closed his eyes was a clear, blue sky. Just like how it was that day...that day...why can't he remember?
Just as Nick thought all hope was lost, he felt the wind brush against his pale cheek. He opened his eyes slowly, he was met with a pair of Xanadu(shade of green) eyes. But he didn't have enough strength to move. Instead, he drifted off, slowly falling unconscious again. He dreamed of standing in a grassy field in his unconscious state, the sun was shining bright, and the wind was blowing softly against the trees. Springtime. Nick's favorite season. He looked over the grassy terrain and found it quite beautiful. As he examined the beautiful land, he heard childish laughter and footsteps running towards him.
He looked to his side to see a small kid running through the grassy fields, the kid was chasing a cat that had both black and white fur that was split perfectly in the middle.
Nick examined the kid, his eyes widened when he realized who it was. It was him as a kid.
The kid began running towards Nick. When he reached Nick, the world disappeared and he began falling again.
Nick jolted up from his pillow, he looked around the room. He was back in his room and that relieved him. That was until he remembered Eli. He jolted out of bed and swung his closet door open only to be sucked into the closet, disintegrating into the black abyss. Of course, Nick began falling....once again.
After falling for what felt like an eternity, Nick's eyes shot open but he quickly shut them when the sun blinded him.
"You're finally awake!" A cheery voice shouted, Nick, looked over to where the voice came from.
It was a girl, freckles all over her fair skin, she had ginger hair and her Xanadu eyes shined in the morning sunlight. She was like any other human, the only thing different about her being her ears. She didn't have human ears, no, she had ears like a goat.
Nick scooched back and hit his head on the bed frame. The girl ran over to his side and looked at him worriedly
"Shoot, are you ok, Nick? Should I bring you an ice pack?" She asked, Nick stared at her blankly.
He only realized that he was staring when he heard a crash from outside. That's what brought him back to reality.
"Who the hell are you? Where's Eli? How the hell do you know my name? And where in the seven seas am I!?"
"I'm Althea, who's Eli? We know each other you dingus and you're in the Overworld of course!"
