Chapter 18: Cube

"Hehe. Let's see if she can solve this." Nishikata was fidgeting with his new toy, a toy that he struggled solving on. Just yesterday after Nishikata was brutally teased from Takagi-san due to their wholesome study date, Nishikata was dedicated to finish what he started. And he was pumped to see if Takagi-san can solve it as well.

With no coincidence, he saunters going to school. At the same time, his anxiousness consumes him as it was also exam day.

He finally arrives to his classroom. Opening the shoji with confidence in his face. Only to
hesitate and become flustered at a girl to who he didn't expect to arrive to school at a time like this.

"T-Takagi-san?" He was very surprised to see her in class early.

"Oh. Hey Nishikata." She greeted him with her iconic smile. Studying once more to kill time.

"H-Hey. Why should I be surprised? I didn't even walk with her for today." He greeted her back. Already blushing.

"Can I ask you something?" He started a conversation that he'll regret later on.

"Sure. What is it?" She turned her head to face his. Being grabbed to his attention.

"Why didn't you walk with me to school today?" With no hesitation he asked a very personal question towards her. She had a tiny blush in her face, surprised that Nishikata asked.

"You sound disappointed huh?" She teased him again. Only for Nishikata to get flustered on the idea.

" I'm n-not. I'm just asking why." He calmed down a little. Hoping to endure her teasing tatics.

"Well why don't you guess why?" She implemented this conversation into a contest.

"She turned this into a contest huh? Is this a contest Takagi-san?" He was seeking clarification. But Takagi-san zipped her words.

"Maybe. Maybe not. As long as you guess why, I'm satisfied."

"You know that sounds like a rhyme. Right?" He noticed that her statement rhymed. Assuming that was on purpose.

"You're so clever Nishikata." Even she noticed the accidental rhyme herself. Only to giggle in the moment.

"Why does it feel like she's not herself today. Maybe I'm overthinking too much." He kept on noticing her attitude towards him. But he shrugged off the idea seeming it was too personal of a reason.

How many guesses do I have?"

" Only 1."

"Dang. Well it's either that she didn't want to walk with me today because she wanted to go to school only to increase time on her studies before exams or maybe she already studied last night, assuming she's formulating a plan to tease me at most. Which to a possible conclusion, I'll get trapped on her teasing. What about its neither of those options and its all me overthinking again. " Out of all of the options, he chose what was rational.

" Is it because you wanted to go to school early just to study more for our exams? "

" Hm.... No. "

" Sigh... As expected of her. " He lost at her non-clarified contest.

" Although you were close."

"I was?" Nishikata didn't expect his guess to be most accurate towards the real reason.

"Today's exam day of course."

"I understand that but-" Nishikata got interrupted by her.

"You know sometimes we may not walk together almost everyday, but I do appreciate your concern onto why we didn't walk together today."
