You were running late for work, but promised your co worker, Andrew, that no matter what happened you would bring him a black coffee with no sugar or anything in it.I mean, he did cover your ass when you showed up 45 minutes late to a meeting.
While in the coffee shop you groaned at how long the line was, but you were also a little happy that you had an excuse to visit this little corner coffee shop.
All you knew about it was that it was run by this old couple who'd owned it for over 40 years, and that their coffee was the best.
When in line you got a buzz on your phone..
"Shit" you thought as you looked and saw it was your boss, Kendra.
Kendra: Where are you?
Y/N: Sorry, there was a bit of traffic. I should be there in 10 minutes.
Kendra: When you get here, come into my office.
You didn't know whether you should cry or be angry. You're not good with confrontations, nonetheless ones with Kendra. Kendra is known for firing even her best employees, and let's just say.. you were not one of the best.
Being overwhelmed you didn't even realize you needed to move up in line, someone tapped your shoulder and you quickly turned around and looked up.
"Hey, you're next"
You just sort of froze, examining the guys face.
You definitely recognized him, but from where? He had common features, brown fluffy hair and brown eyes. He also was sort of pale, not tan but definitely not super white. Just.. pale.
He sort of gave you a confused face until his mouth dropped.
"No way.."
You both just stared at each other for what felt like hours.
"Y/N..?"
"Liam..?"
Your cheeks instantly went red, you couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment or if Liam actually had that much power over you.
"You've definitely changed.. since um, middle school.. haha!" You said nervously but also with a genuine smile on your face, like you meant every word of your sentence.
"You have too." Liam said, with a toothy grin.
Wow.. I mean just wow. In middle school he was okay, maybe a 6/10 but he's really changed..
You ordered your coffee with a true smile on your face, as if your boss hadn't just practically said she was going to fire you.
"Can you stay? I'd like to sit and catch up with you." Liam said, staring down at you.
"Oh. Not today, I'm already late for work haha." You said, it was true, but you're pretty sure he thinks you're lying.
He looks down at your two cups of coffee, one for yourself and one for Andrew, then quickly looks back up to you.
"Hm. Alright, could I get your number so we could talk soon?" He said.
You immediately typed your number into his phone, and put in the contact name as "Y/N <3"
He looked at it and smirked.
"It was really nice seeing you today. A kind surprise. I'll text you when I can." He said.
"Okay. Cya, bye!" You said bolting out the door and into your car. If you weren't going to be fired before, you definitely would be now. As you're having a slight panic attack in your car, your phone buzzes.
So many thoughts are going through your head, was it Liam? No, you guys just said bye to each other.. or is it Kendra? You groaned and looked at your phone.
Andrew: You need to get your ass here ASAP
Y/N: I know I know.
Andrew: Kendra is NOT happy with you.
Y/N: No shit Sherlock, I'm over an hour late.
Andrew: hey! Don't take it out on the messenger.
You drove as quickly as you could and when you entered the doors, Kendra was there to greet you.
"Y/N." She said with a passive aggressive smile.
To be completely honest, Kendra was one of the most terrifying person you'd ever meet. Her smile screamed 'This isn't what I ordered' vibes. And she was about 5'8 with heels, and always wore black slacks with a white blouse.
"Kendra, I am so sorry.. I.." you were at a loss for words. Your mind was just full of Liam on the way to work that you didn't even have time to think of an excuse.
Kendra looked down at the two coffees you were holding, probably thinking either one was for her or that that's the reason you was so late.
"Y/N, get to work. Come to my office at the end of your shift."
"Yes ma'am."
As Kendra walked off you went into your office and started working. Your shift came and went as any other day, and this morning didn't even feel real..
