^^^Skylar in the MM.

Skylar

Finishing last minute touching to a layout, I glanced at the time. 8:35pm. Shxt. Kendra was going to kill me, again. I hit save and made a mental note to finish it in the morning. After powering off everything, I grabbed my purse, turned the lights out and ran toward the elevator. My cell phone rang and I answered.

"I'm on my way. 20 minutes, tops."

Kendra smacked her lips. "Skylar KaLyse, If you weren't my bestfriend, I'd so cuss you out right now."

I sighed, tapping the down button repeatedly. It was extra slow tonight. "I'm sorry. I was at work and lost track of time. 20 minutes, I promise." The elevator dinged and I watched it open, revealing Chase on the other side.

"Kendra, I'm on my way." I hung up before she could reply and stepped on. I went to hit the button but it was already lit. I leaned against the wall and sighed.

"Didn't think anyone worked this late besides me," he said, breaking the silence that lingered between us.

"I lost track of time. I'm late for dinner," I said checking my watch. I tapped my foot, anxiously. He mumbled something and laughed.

"Excuse me?"

He stuck his hands in his pocket, shaking his head. "Nothing," he said with a smirk. It was then I noticed the dimple in his left cheek.

I shook my head laughing. "Okay." The elevator opened and I stepped off, heading towards my car. I got in and clicked my seatbelt before turning the key.

Nothing.

I tried it again and still nothing. I hit the steering wheel. "You've got to be kidding me!" I screamed in frustration. I grabbed my phone and called AAA, only to be told it'll be a forty-five minute to an hour wait. Defeated, I said okay then called Kendra.

"Skylar, girrlllllllll. Where are you? Our dates will be here any moment."

"My car won't start. Maybe this is a sign Kendra. Maybe I'm not ready to date yet."

She sighed and I heard shuffling. "Sky we not doing this tonight. You gon getcho ass back on the wagon some kind of way."

"I know bu-"

"Is everything okay?" I muffled voice said. I was so wrapped in my conversation I didn't see the Porsche pull up or Chase get out.

"Wayment... Who's that?"

"Nobody," i downplayed it.

"It sounds like a guy. Is he cute?" She asked as I rolled the window slightly down. "Yes. Hol on Kendra....what'd you say?"

He smiled, leaning down. "I said is everything okay?"

"Noooooo, she needs a ride. Can she ride you?" Kendra yelled thru the phone causing me to choke. I'm glad I had headphones in. "I'm a call you back."

"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know you were on the phone. I just wanted to make sure everything was cool before I head out."

"My car won't start but I called a tow truck. I'll be fine."

He took off his jacket and loosened his tie. "Pop the hood, I'll take a look." I hesitantly hit the button and watched as he lifted the hood. Me being me, I got out and accompanied him.

"Your battery is fried. I could give you a jump but you probably won't make it out of the parking lot."

"Oh great!"

"It's an Auto store a few blocks up if you want to go."

"No it's fine. AAA is coming. They'll replace it."

"I can stay and wait with you," he offered, looking around. I shook my head. "Oh, no. You don't have to. I'm sure you have some place to be."

"An empty penthouse can wait. I'll sit in my car until they get here." he winked and jogged back to his car, backing in next to mine. I called Kendra back.

"Bitchhhhh. Who was that? He sounds gorgeous."

"That was a guy I work with. He's waiting with me til the tow people get here."

She scoffed. "Then why are you on the phone with me. Talk to him."

"He's sitting in his car."

"Ho my gawd. Well go sit with him."

"I will not! I don't know him."

"Get to know him. He may be just what you need to loosen up. Go talk to him. Sit in his car. Hell sit on him." She laughed and so did I.

"I really hate you right now." I hung up again and looked over at his car. The windows were tinted so I didn't want to stare too long and seem like a creep.

I inhaled and blew out slowly. I got out and tapped on the window. The September air was chill but not too much. The passenger door opened and caught me off guard. He motioned for me to get in.

Chase

On the phone with Jamison, the tap at my window scared the hell out of me. I glanced up to see Skylar somewhat shivering. It didn't cross my mind that it was a chill night. I opened the door and motioned for her to get in. She hesitated but did it anyway.

"Are you listening man?"

"Yes. Just finish the new one and leave the old one on standby. Simple. I gotta go."

"Go do what? You don't have a life," he laughed.

I sucked my teeth, turning the heat on. "You look cold," I said to Sky. She laughed, flashing a gorgeous smile. "I kinda am."

"Who is that?"

"Bye Jamison." I hung up and sat my phone in the cup holder. "Sorry about that."

"Oh, it's no problem. Thank you for waiting with me."

"You don't have to thank me. What man in his right mind would leave a beautiful woman in a parking garage, alone."

She readjusted herself in the seat and faintly smiled. I shook it off and changed the subject.

"So how are you liking LaCore Press?"

"It's... like everything I imagined."

"So you like graphic design?"

She nodded. "I've been wanting to do graphic designs since I was little. I was always fascinated by it."

I chuckled at how excited she got. She scrunched her face up. "What's funny?"

"You..."

"How so?"

"You just are. It's a good thing tho." She was about to say something when the tow truck pulled up. It didn't take him any time at all to switch out the battery.

"Oh my goodness, thank you," she praised, turning her truck on. "Thank you for waiting with me."

"Anything." I closed her car door for her before returning to my own vehicle. Just as I was getting in, her window rolled down.

"Hey, how about I buy you a drink?"
