Brackets mean flashback

I grip the letter tightly in my hands as tears were streaming down my face, My husband, the love of my life was dead.

[ "Are you sure about this?" I say to my fiancée after he told me he was going to join the war. "Don't worry 'Cinda I'm sure that I'll get back safely, I mean who doesn't want the most beautiful woman waiting for him at home" Ambrose says with a smirk. I roll my eyes playfully and hit him in the arm.]

"Dear miss Johannes

We regret to inform you that your husband has died in the war. Just know that your fiancée was brave. He sacrificed himself to save 5 of his comrades. Our condolences go out to you.

                               From: The Army"

I feel my world fall apart as I sit down on the floor against the wall, my tears blurring my vision. "He promised" I barely whispered. "He promised!" I say half shouting. "HE PROMISED!" I say shouting that even France could hear.

I'm now sitting alone beside his memorial because not even the soldiers that he saved attended. And because all of his kin were either missing or dead.

I now faced his memorial shouting "WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE OUR HAPPY ENDING, YOU PROMISED, YOU PROMISED, YOU PROMISED THAT WE WOULD HAVE OUR HAPPY ENDING, YOU PROMISED THAT WE WOULD HAVE A HAPPY FAMILY, NOW I HAVE TO RAISE YOUR CHILD ALONE!" out of sadness.

until I see you again Ambrose.

Ambrose, the love of my life, the person i swore my life to love forever, and ever. Died on this day, yet you swore you'd never leave me.. you swore.
