Despite the brutal loss, Noel and Cody insisted that the boys still throw an after party. And so, because Noel's parents were livid about the last party, Cody suggested they throw it at his house. Noel shook his head at this while they were discussing on the drive home, insisting that his house was more well known and better suited. The reason Noel was even able to throw so many parties was because his parents were almost always away on business. The only time they really were at home were mondays and tuesdays, but no one partied on those days anyway.
Danny told the boys about how a redheaded boy that matched the description was his draw opponent. Everyone came to the conclusion that this was probably their guy, and they would try to find out more about him.
So the boys pulled up to Noel's house, and everyone headed inside to set up. But Danny hesitated in the doorway, glancing back at the woods behind him. He felt a strange calling to go back in alone despite what had happened, but a twinge of hunger told him to head for the fridge. He was always hungry lately.
He pulled out a pack of balogna and began devouring it hastily, conjuring some weird stares from the group. Drew looked particularly disgusted, and Danny straightened up immediately and shoved the package away from him.
"You alright Danny?" Noel asked, "We coulda stopped at like McDonalds or something."
"Nah," Said Cody, "He's just starving for that dick!"
Danny knew the rest of the boys thought he was just joking, but Danny knew Cody was poking fun at him just a little. He laughed anyway.
"No way man," Kurtis interjected, "He's prepping for those edibles like last time."
Drew snickered at this and Danny felt his face go red. He smiled to himself as he looked down at his jeans.
Danny helped Kurtis with the music while Noel and Cody were prepping the house. Drew had announced he was going to take a nap in the guest room because of his condition so he could feel better for the party. Danny was thinking about the game a lot, zoning out mostly instead of helping Kurtis as much. Why had Drew been so pissed off? Lacrosse was super important to him obviously, but he'd never seen Drew so enraged. It was kind of scary- and also kind of hot. Danny stopped himself before he let his mind wander...
People began to make their way inside at around 10pm, and by 11 it was a full on rager. Danny had decided he liked being high and was laying on one of the couches, watching the lights flicker in slow motion and letting the sound of pitbull's serene voice consume him. He let his eyes wander over to the left, where Noel was riding Cody like a pony and a group of people were laughing and taking pictures. To his right, Kurtis was swaying gently to the music. And behind him, Drew was vomiting in a flower pot. Everything was just as it should be.
But Danny was hungry again. It made sense, because pot made you hungry. But it was almost painful how hungry he was. He took a long hit from his new juul and that made him feel better. He was too tired to get up and go to the fridge.
As he was exhaling the mango vapor, his eyes landed on a boy with red hair. He forgot how tired he was and sat upright, and stared at him. Redhead turned toward him slightly to face the person he was talking to and yes, it was him, the boy from the draw. Redhead grinned, and that's when he saw it- abnormally long canine teeth. They weren't exactly drastic, but they were there. And Danny felt his stomach churn and he knew then that he had been right. This guy had to be his attacker; he attended Noel's parties, he probably had been high, and decided to do a really fucked up prank.
Danny, in his uncoordinated state, swayed over to the redhead. "Hi," He said, leaning up against the wall.
"Hi," Said the redhead, raising his eyebrows and looking Danny up and down. "Do I know you from somewhere?" He asked.
