Cody and Noel snickered a little. Kurtis sighed, looking at Danny in bewilderment.

"I'll go check on him," Danny announced, and made his way up the stairs.

Drew was in the backyard, chucking the ball at his bounceback angrily and catching it swiftly and with ease every time, even when it flew back off course. His face was rigid and the muscles in his arms were tensed. He was beautiful.

Danny walked to him quietly, the birds chirping soulfully despite Drew's harsh demeanor. "You alright there Drew?" Danny called.

"Fine," Drew said tonelessly without turning to face Danny. With a woosh, Drew pummeled the bounceback and it fired back at him, this time hitting Danny squarely in the nose.

"Gahh!!!" Danny cried out, falling on his ass on the lawn. His hands flung to his nose, which was now bleeding profusely.

Drew slowly bent down next to him and Danny cried out again. "Dude, I think you broke my nose!"

"You're- you're getting blood on the grass," Drew said shakily.

"So fucking what?" Danny shouted.

"My mom just paid good money for that grass-"

"Fuck you drew! I think my fucking nose is broken!" Danny screamed, kicking Drew in the shin.

"Danny stop," Drew said, his voice steadier and harder now. He kneeled over Danny and tried to roll him over but Danny shoved him off roughly so Drew hit the ground with a thud, knocking the wind out of him.
"Fuck you! I've been injured twice in the last 24 hours and you've been acting like a jackass the whole time! I don't give a fuck about your grass Drew!"

Drew reached over to retaliate, and Danny kneed him in the chest. Drew gasped and grabbed on to Danny's wrists, flung himself overtop of him and the two rolled over each other.

"What you want me to treat you like a little baby like everyone else? Poor fucking Danny got attacked in the woods in the middle of the night? What were you even doing out there in the first place you idiot?!" Drew yelled, and Danny delivered a punch to Drew's cheekbone.

Drew's head fell back a bit but he grabbed Danny's wrists and the two rolled over again so that finally Drew was straddling Danny, pinning him down. Danny gasped as the night before played out in his mind; his attacker had held him down in a similar fashion. He cried out at the memory and looked up at Drew. The two boys gasped for air, staring each other in the eyes. Suddenly it felt like it was just the two of them, the rest of the world fading into nothingness as they gazed at each other.
Slowly, Drew released his grip on Danny's left wrist and slowly brought it to his face, where he ran his hand along the stream of blood pooling from Danny's nose. His eyes never leaving Danny's he slowly licked the blood off of his hand.

"What are you doing?" Danny croaked.

Drew blinked.
"Cleaning your wound, well, sort of, i mean, i don't think it's broken. I'll go get the others."

In a flash, Drew had leapt off of Danny and was running off toward the house.

Danny looked up at the clouds, attempted to process what had just happened, but overwhelmed with pain his mind went blank and he felt the blood dripping down his jaw and pooling onto the grass beneath him, and the world became blurry. He could hear voices, but they sounded far off and like an echo in the back of his mind.

Everything went black.
