Jezebel stood in line at the airport with her mother, but she was the only one leaving. The teenage girl had enough of her father's psychological abuse and neglect. He was no father to her, she needed away. So her mother decided to send her off to live with her uncle. Jezebel was nervous and sad to leave her family but she knew she had to do it. She'd met her uncle before and knew he was a nice guy, and her mother said he would take good care of her; she trusted her on that. She turned to her mother and spoke candidly as she always did, "I really wish I could have a glass of wine."
Julia laughed, "Too bad you're not old enough. Sorry."
Jezebel smiled and chuckled. Her mother never said much, always to the point, but at least she laughed. She loved being away from the house so she could actually see her mother be happy. But this wasn't a happy moment. It was her time to board and she hugged her mother, "I'm going to miss you." She almost felt like crying, "I don't really want to go, but I don't want to live with father anymore."
Her mother began to well with tears as she pulled back from the hug, "I know, but it's not good for you to be here. I'm going to miss you so much, but you can call me whenever you want."
Jezebel nodded before smiling one last time and going up the ramp. She'd never been on a plane before and that was scary in itself. She found her seat and a man sat down next to her, he was fairly handsome. They smiled and he nodded his head curtly in greeting. They lifted off and not too soon after the man broke the silence, "Do you fly often?"
Jezebel shook her head, "I've never been on a plane."
He chuckled, "I do it all the time for work."
"Oh," she replied, "What do you do?"
He lit up, clearly he loved his job. He responded joyously, "I work for a wine company. I travel to promote it. I also go to every winery the company owns to test the wine. I make sure it's of good quality."
She smiled, folding into herself, a bit shy, "That's really great. I love wine."
He grinned, "Would you like me to flag down the stewardess for some?"
She winced and shook her head, "I'm not twenty-one."
He looked shocked, yet his friendly demeanor remained, "You look twenty-one."
She blushed. Men always thought she was at least twenty-one, although she was only fifteen.
They flew the rest of the way in comfortable silence, the man glancing flirtatiously over at her every now and then. He didn't know how old she was, but Jezebel was used to it. She had been flirted with by men since she was twelve. She kept blushing, finding him attractive. She'd always liked men, not boys her own age. She wished she could have done things with him a teenage girl shouldn't be thinking about.
She got off the plane and her uncle picked her up. When they got to his house he showed her to her room and she finally could relax. She felt free. She felt like she could finally be herself, as her father had always been so strict, keeping her from her true self. She could finally do what she wanted, be what she wanted.
