TW: abuse, rape and hurtful words. 🌊 when safe

He was drunk. She could smell him from feet away. He stumbled towards her and lifted his hand. She flinched. He hit her in the face. He hit her arms and her head. "Stop!" she cried. "You don't get to tell me what to do, you brat!" he spat in her face. "Stop!" she cried again. "You stupid little bitch, you make me sick!" He kicked her legs until she couldn't stand anymore. He kicked her in her stomach. "Stop!" she gasped. "Enough!" he yelled. "I am the adult, you are just a child. A stupid, worthless brat who can't do anything right. You are nothing, nothing! Your parents were right to give you up! You deserve this, you brought this upon yourself!!" He grabbed her hair and pulled her up by it. "Ah!" He dragged her with him to his bedroom. "No!" He tied her hands together and threw her on the bed. She was weak, she hadn't eaten in days and couldn't defend herself. He ripped her jeans and underwear off and threw them on the floor. "No!" He slapped her across the face. He took his jeans and boxers off as well and spread her legs with force. "Please, stop!" He entered her and she screamed. "Stop! It hurts!" He pounded in her. Tears were streaming down her face. He kept on pounding and hitting her. "Stop!! Please!!"

"No! Stop!" Emma screamed and she gasped for air and sobbed as she jolted upright in bed. "Emma? Are you alright?" Regina stood in the doorway of the guest bedroom. Emma couldn't speak, she just clamped her thighs shut, as if he were still there and could do something to her. Regina walked towards the bed and sat down. "Hey, hey, it was just a nightmare," she said kindly. The blonde was sweating and had hair sticking on her face. Regina stuck her hand out to wipe it away, but Emma was still full of the nightmare and thought she was going to get hit. She flinched. "No! I'm sorry!" she sobbed. She jumped out of the bed and quickly walked towards the door, her legs were shaking. "No wait, I'm not going to hit you. I'm not going to hurt you," Regina said. Emma's legs gave out and she dropped to the floor, shaking and sobbing. Regina walked towards her and sat next to her. "Hey sweetie, it's alright. It's alright. I'm here, you're okay," she whispered. "I'm just going to wipe some hair from your face, alright?" It took a few deep breaths, but Emma nodded. Regina slowly stuck her hand out. Emma flinched slightly but remained seated. When Regina's hand was nearly on her face, she clamped her eyes shut. She expected a hit, but it never came. Instead, she felt Regina's soft fingers wiping the strand of hair away. She caressed Emma's cheek. Emma slowly leaned into the touch, but kept her eyes closed. "Do you want a hug?" Regina whispered. Emma nodded. Regina carefully put her arms around the trembling blonde. 'She's trembling and sweating, poor girl. What the hell did she dream about?' Regina thought. They sat like that for a few minutes, until Emma had stopped crying and breathed normally again. She slowly pulled away. "Come on, let's get you out of these pyjamas and wash up a bit," Regina said. She stood up and pulled Emma up. "Since we only packed one set of pyjamas, I'll look at what I have, okay?" Emma nodded. Regina rushed to her bedroom and grabbed some clean, silk pyjamas. When she came back into the guest bedroom, she saw Emma sitting on the bed, knees to her chest. "Emma? Here are some clean ones. What if you got out of your pyjamas, washed a bit and put these on?" Regina suggested. "Okay," Emma whispered. "Do you need help with changing or washing?" The blonde looked down in thought. "I'm... not sure," she said. "Okay, how about you go into the bathroom and I wait for you in the hall?" Regina asked. Emma nodded. "Just call me if you need me."

Emma had gotten out of her pyjamas, washed herself and put on Regina's silk pyjamas. She looked at herself in the mirror. She looked like a mess. 'That nightmare, always that nightmare. Drunk Ruby must've triggered it,' she thought. "Yeah, that's probably what triggered it. Dammit, Ruby," she said. "Why'd you have to call me while being drunk? Now I'll have this nightmare for weeks." She heard a knock on the door. "Emma? Are you finished?" "Yeah, one sec," Emma replied. "I don't know if I'll tell her, I don't want her to feel bad and I don't want her to screw me over. No, I'll just leave it, it was an accident, she didn't know..." she said to herself. She sighed deeply and went outside. "Hey, how are you feeling?" Regina asked. "Better, thanks," Emma said. They walked to the guest bedroom. Emma stood still in front of the bed. She looked at it and bit her lip. 'I don't know if I can sleep again, if I want to sleep again. It'll probably give me more nightmares,' she thought. 'Ugh, it's a bed, get over it Swan, it didn't happen here. It's a normal, safe bed, where men can't come.' She got in again and Regina pulled the covers over her. "What's the time?" Emma asked. "Nearly three. I hope you sleep well for the rest of the night," Regina said. "Thank you," Emma said, "for everything." Regina smiled and ran her thumb along Emma's cheek. "Goodnight," she whispered and walked towards the door. "Wait," Emma said quietly. Regina stopped and looked at her. "Can you stay with me until I sleep again?" Emma asked, sounding like a small child who was scared of rejection. "Of course," Regina said. "Do you want me to lay with you?" "If that's okay with you," Emma whispered. Regina got under the covers. They were laying awkwardly next to each other for a few minutes before Regina slowly put her arm over Emma's side. Emma nestled closer to her, resting her head next to Regina's shoulder. She didn't mean to, but was asleep in seconds.

Regina looked at the now sleeping blonde. 'Poor girl. She was so scared. Did she say that Ruby had triggered it? And that Ruby was drunk?' She got snapped from her thoughts as she heard a whimper coming from Emma. "No..." she whispered. Regina drew small patterns on the blonde's arm. "Shh, it's just a dream. You're safe. It's just a dream," she said softly. Emma calmed down and continued to sleep peacefully. 'What did they do to her?' Regina thought angrily, understanding that these nightmares were from Emma's past. She looked at Emma again and calmed down. In her sleep, Emma scooted even closer to Regina, her head was now comfortably nestled against her chest. There was a small, content sigh from the blonde to be heard. Regina smiled and felt her own eyes droop closed.

Emma woke up with fresh tears on her cheeks. She sat up a bit, felt them with her hand with a confused expression. That's when she noticed someone was looking at her. Emma looked around the room to see Regina standing in the doorway, looking at her with a little concern. "You okay?" she asked. "Yeah, apparently I had a nightmare," Emma said, wiping the tears. Regina walked into the room and sat on the bed. "About that... are those nightmares a regular thing?" Emma looked down. "Yeah... sorry that I woke you," she mumbled. Regina put a finger under her chin and tilted it up so Emma was looking at her. "Don't apologize, it's not your fault. Is it better when I'm there?" she asked. "Yeah," Emma whispered. "Okay. Then you'll sleep in my room from now on. We can carry this bed there, it's really easy to carry. Whenever you get a nightmare, I can wake you. Is that okay?" Regina said. "You'd really do that for me?" Emma asked with a small voice. Regina smiled. "Of course." Emma smiled too. "Thank you."
