It was a dangerous task, meeting up with Childe, but Kaeya kept going to meet up with the Harbinger. He knew the Fatui's goals, he knew how dangerous they were. He just couldn't see how someone like Childe could hurt anyone, he had met his little brother, Tuecer, a few nights ago. Tuecer was a happy boy, and he was enthusiastic about Ruin Guards, which would be concerning, if his older brother wasn't Childe, he wouldn't let him get hurt.

Kaeya sat in a tree, right next to Starsnatch Cliff, waiting for Childe, usually, he would leave a broken sword on the ground, so if Childe came by, he'd know he was there. He saw Childe's ginger hair and his heart skipped a beat. He stayed silent until Childe saw the broken sword and looked up in the tree, locking eyes with Kaeya. "Hey there." He said with a loving smile.  Kaeya waved, jumping down, almost instantly holding hands with Childe as they began walking down their usual trail.

"What have I missed?" He asked, pressing his forehead to Childe's cheek. "Not a lot, my comrades are hectic as usual, but they're all fine, and nothings happened to Tuecer, or any of my other siblings, how about you?" Childe asked. Kaeya shrugged. "Same here, a few hilichurls broke into Mondstadt, but we took care of them relatively quickly." Kaeya kicked a stray pebble out of the way as they walked around a log. "But, unfortunately, Jean has noticed how I seem more tired and distracted when we're doing commissions." he sighed, squeezing Childe's hand. "It'll be alright, I'm sure we'll figure out a way to make it work."

Kaeya nodded, glancing over at Childe's stormy blue eyes. "What will we do if we get caught?" Childe stopped, then gave him a reassuring smile. "We could run off to Inazuma, I know we could get there somehow." Kaeya nodded "Right, I've heard of that place before." Kaeya admired how graceful Childe looked under the moonlight, the moonlight reflecting off his dark eyes, and it dimly lighting his hair up. "Look." Kaeya said, picking up a sweetflower. Childe looked over, "Pretty.." He mumbled. Kaeya reached over and put it in Childe's hair, who in return blushed. Luckily, it was dark so Kaeya couldn't see him blushing. "I hope you're right, the Fatui would probably break their necks trying to find you if we do run off." He sighed. Childe nodded "I like to think I'm good at hiding and running." The ginger said.

Childe looked up at the moon, which was slowly going down. "It's almost day," he said, looking at Kaeya, who huffed in annoyance. "If only the night was long enough." the cryo user said, pinching his temples. The pair had spent countless nights together, they had met completely by chance when Kaeya was being outnumbered by treasure hoarders, Childe had leapt in to help.

Kaeya kissed Childe on the cheek before heading back to Mondstadt.

As usual, the day passed slower than usual, it also didn't help he had to destroy a hilichurl camp.

He glanced around, looking for the hilichurl camp, until he saw it. He walked slowly drawing his sword, until he got tackled. His yelp was cut off as a gloved hand covered his mouth, rather harshly. "So you're the one Tartaglia has been meeting up with...." A deep voice said. Kaeya opened his eyes to see a light blue haired man on top of him, with two ruby red eyes, with a mask covering half of his face.

He could only link this person to Il Dottore, one of the Harbingers Childe had talked about. For a while he thought Childe had sent him to scare him, but he decided against that, Childe loved him, and he loved Childe. Whoever this was, did this on his own, and he had been spying on them. "I would experiment on you, and make you suffer, but I suppose what I'll make Tartaglia witness will be far, far worse." Dottore said, with a grim and sadistic smile.

Kaeya tried to fight back, but it was useless, Dottore was far taller and more muscular than him. He had a odd thing pinned to his neck, it almost looked like the head of a drill, but, it was floating, and the tip of it was drawing blood. "KAEYA!" He heard a familiar voice yell. He looked over to see Childe looking terrified, being held back by a shorter man with a stupidly oversized hat on. Childe kicked and thrashed around in his grasp. "Let me go Scaramouche! He screeched. The man known as Scaramouche only let out a sick snicker.

Dottore pressed a blade to Kaeya's neck. "Tsk, tsk, forbidden relationships, don't you think it's stupid, Scaramouche? La Signora had constantly preached to us 'If you're going to fall in love, fall in love with someone from the Fatui, and under no circumstances, fall in love with someone in the Knights Of Favonius.' Pathetic." Dottore said. "Indeed, I think the punishment should be watching them die." Scaramouche agreed, as Childe thrashed around once more. "You wouldn't dare." He hissed venomously, glaring at him with a look that could kill. Scaramouche gave him a cold stare. "Just watch us." He said, smirking.

"Can I have my fun with him first? I wanna see what Tartaglia saw in him!" Dottore exclaimed, slightly poking Kaeya with the knife. "DON'T TOUCH HIM!!" Childe screeched, only to be slapped right on his ear by Scaramouche, leaving a red mark. "No, we only came here for one thing, and one thing only, he isn't one of your experiments Dottore." Scaramouche said with slight annoyance. Dottore rolled his eyes, stabbing Kaeya in the chest.

Kaeya screamed as the knife pierced his heart, Childe's eyes were filled with tears, as Scaramouche let him go, he scrambled over to Kaeya, pushing his head to his own chest. "Kaeya, stay with me..." He mumbled. Dottore walked off, Scaramouche by his side, matching him step for step.  "I'm so sorry Kaeya... Please.. I should have been more careful.... They must have followed me..." Childe choked out between sobs. Kaeya looked at Childe, a pang inside his chest that a knife could never cause.

Childe sat there, his body being wracked with sobs, as Kaeya softly sang him a song, as his body was slowly loosing warmth. Childe decided to join in on singing one last time, and Kaeya had died in his arms with a smile. His clothes were dyed with red Kaeya's blood.
