what's the place where you feel the most alive?

calm waves and sandy beaches with soft wind that blows against your skin as you slowly waft into the water? a night spent at home on a date with a book, sitting in a comfortable leather recliner as a candle burns beside you while you flip through the pages, scanning each paragraph carefully in order to not miss any words?

for dream, it's the adrenaline rush he receives from the bright illuminating lights, the pump of the pop music and the bodies moving constantly on the dance floor. couples having chats with a drink near the bar, strangers making out in a corner dark enough to hide their faces from a distance. there was never a time where the club grew quiet; it was always full of energy and excitement, a delightful mystery and a spike of ecstatic feelings as new bodies hit the dance floor.

being a bartender at the club was something dream never thought he would enjoy. he figured he would prefer being the one on the floor, dancing and drinking his life away as the music notes flowed through his body and sent shivers down his spine. in reality, though, people-watching was his favorite thing in the world, and a bar allowed him to see new- and sometimes old- faces everyday.

there were always people coming in and out of the club, and it was consistent enough for multiple customers to line up at the bar every couple minutes, ordering another drink with slurred words and bright eyes.

it was oddly relaxing to be the person who could offer these people an escape from their adult life. dream knew all too well of how fucking devastating real life is. the club was his escape as well, just for a different reason.

the blonde finished serving the last excited people in line, allowing him some down time to watch the people on the floor dance and holler. he always loved to witness the happy manner that spread through the building when a new song came on. everyone bounded together, not caring about the fact that they were hopping around with strangers, and they danced. they danced, sang, laughed and occasionally shared tongues between dance moves.

dream leaned against the counter, tugging up the sleeves of his white button up underneath his black apron. he always hated the uniform he had to wear, since it was very restricting of expression and stuck to a basic, bland black and white style.

he ran a hand through his hair, settling down to watch as the crowd grew together, waiting for the next song to play.

an electric guitar began strumming through the loud speakers surrounding the club, and the sound-reactive led's started flipping between multiple colors as the beat continued, gradually growing into a more upbeat, powerful melody with a sense of punk rock to it. the first lyrics came next after a quick guitar line, ringing through his ears as the music filled him with joy and the people on the floor began bobbing their heads to the beat.

get me out of this house, and get me out of my head.
get me a drink and a cigarette.
i just need to go out 'cause i can sleep when i'm dead.
drop me off at the rox on sunset.

dream felt his lips turn into a smile, feeling the rhythm of the song radiate throughout the room. he scanned the crowd, taking in every individual's features. he saw red hair, black hair, bright colors and glasses, leather outfits and casual jeans all in the same small room.

his eyes landed on a brunette somewhere near the middle of the group of strangers who was dancing and pumping his arms in the air excitedly, his body being consumed by the beat and his bright aura lighting up the dance floor.

his lips were tugged into a bright smile, his pearly teeth shining against the flashing lights while his eyes were squinted closed, fully pulled into the moment as he continued to move his body to the beat.

dream watched intently, his eyes never allowing him to leave the boy's body. he was slim and petite, wearing a cropped blue shirt and ripped shorts that hugged his frame just perfectly enough for the blonde to drool over. his hips swayed on time with the song, his hands trailing down his own body as more people gathered around to dance on the floor around him.

dream could feel himself losing his breath. his chest was growing tight and his heart was beating faster, his face lighting up in red as the room began to feel hotter then it felt before. his hands itched to feel the brunette's skin, to hold his waist and dance mindlessly with him. he seemed so lost in the club, stuck in a trance from the alcohol and bright lights.

so was dream. the blonde was stuck in a trance that the boy had caused unintentionally. the brunette had no idea that dream was losing his mind over just one look at him, and it would stay that way for the rest of the night he was here since dream was a people watcher, and not a people enjoyer.

his body heated up and his stomach started doing somersaults as the eyes that were squeezed shut unexpectedly opened, locking with dream's bright green eyes that were focused purely on the brunette on the floor, who had just made direct eye contact with the bartender who's heart was running hundreds of laps per second.

it was like they were in there own little moment. time stopped, bodies stopped moving on the floor and the loud music paused. it was just the two of them, staring at each other with a shared look of passion and interest that made dream's skin boil.

the music continued and time kept going when the brunette looked away, dancing to the song once again, his eyes squeezed shut like he was trying to block out everyone and everything, including the bartender he had just met eyes with.

dream yearned for the boy; yearned for something even as small as another shared glance, but he couldn't have what he wanted and he knew it. he was only a bartender, not a customer. it wasn't his place to step onto the floor and dance with a stranger.

hey, you, same time and the same place
we can get shitfaced, yeah-yeah
hey, you, there's a lot that I wanna say
but that's for another day, okay
