Jane
"Jane?"
I opened my eyes to the sound of my name and nothing else but complete darkness. I felt someone beside me. The scent told me it was William--his Hunter's blood as apparent as ever. And we were in a small, dank room that smelled rotten and dusty.
"What happened?" I groaned, my body aching more than it should have. The whole situation reminded me of being locked up in the Hunters' headquarters. Then, they'd weakened me to their upmost extent--both times I'd been captured.
"Daniel and his cronies," William grumbled. "That's what happened."
The name registered almost blankly, like that of a dream state. "Daniel?"
"The Original who's been calling the shots."
I remembered now the vampire standing at the front of the house. He'd taken me down in a heartbeat, proving his Original abilities to be just as powerful as we saw in Newberry. He must have been the faceless leader who had killed Celia.
"Where do you think we are?"
William sighed, moving around. "I don't know. The basement maybe? I blacked out and woke up in here."
Reality hit closer and closer until it was staring me in the face. Coming here had been a stupid idea. Had we really thought we could take down the Originals? That we would just find the cure and get out and go back to Newberry in one piece?
I leaned against the wall behind me. "This was all a trap."
"That bastard," William whispered.
Just then a door creaked open letting a ray of light into the room. The scent of old vampire came traipsing down a staircase.
Gerard shone a flashlight on the two of us from where he stood across the room. He didn't seem at all threatened by us. He just smiled that arrogant grin of his. It sickened me that he'd once been Angelina's bond. And now he was this evil son of a bitch.
"Nice to see you two wide-awake," he mulled. "Daniel will be happy we didn't put you in too worse a state."
"What do you want from us?" I hissed, trying to pull myself into a standing position. But whatever the hell they'd done to me made it overall impossible to move. My bones locked up and my knees buckled from underneath me, sending my whole body crashing back down to the dusty floor.
His eyes glared with fire in the dim light. "I told you, my motives are one thing. Daniel's are another."
"And this Daniel," William started, his voice surprisingly steady, "what does he want?"
Gerard turned to him, that everlasting smirk never leaving that smug face of his. I wanted to slap it right off, but I was pretty sure I wouldn't even get my hand up high enough to do so. "I'm sure you have some ideas, Hunter spawn. But I believe Daniel would rather tell you himself."
Then the door opened once again sweeping in a stronger scent. My body froze as the man named Daniel stepped into the light. His expression wasn't as evilly amused as Gerard's but instead stern and unwavering. In some strange way, it reminded me of Bernard. I vaguely remembered his stories of running with Originals years ago.
