Albedo sat up and yawned. He felt as if all the worries he had in life had magically disappeared, and then he saw Kaeya lying next to him and they all came rushing back. Albedo leaped out of the bed and fell on his ass. He winced.
"Morning already?" Kaeya rolled over but showed no signs of moving.
"I must've completed the project without realizing," Albedo held his chin with his hand and stood up. He walked into his workspace and stared at everything lying around. Clicking a few buttons on his monitor, he realized that no...actually...he had never sent the details for the beta model. So, who was this mystery man in his bed? If not one of his android models? Yes, that's right, the real Kaeya.
Albedo ran back into his room and pointed at the bed. "Why are you here? Why are you disrobed?!"
"You don't remember?" Kaeya sat up and ran his hand through his hair. He smiled without revealing anything.
"I remember working...and then..." Albedo rubbed his temple trying to remember what happened. But, sometimes after working for so long without sleep he would forget everything up to a certain point before passing out. "The doorbell rang?" He shook his head, unable to process anything.
"Should I remind you of last night's events?" Kaeya snickered. Albedo blushed and took a step back. He was confident in his ability to rationally think but if he was so tired that he couldn't think anymore...he didn't know may or may not have taken place.
Albedo cleared his throat and allowed his hands to fall idly by his sides. He forced a stoic expression even though his cheeks were still slightly pink. "I can assure you that whatever happened last night was only because I thought you were a testing android. Please forget everything and go about your life."
"What do you think happened last night?"
"I don't remember."
"That gracefully didn't answer my question," Kaeya stood up and walked over to Albedo. He leaned down to eye level. "What do you think happened?"
"You're mocking me aren't you?" Albedo frowned slightly.
"No, no," Kaeya shook his head and stood up straight. "But for someone who refused me so adamantly, you're acting quite bashful."
"Ah, refused?" Albedo let out a sigh of relief. Nice going, past Albedo, you saved the future version of you a bit more heartbreak.
"Seeing as to how you don't remember a thing," Kaeya placed his hand on the wall beside Albedo's head. "I love you, please go out with me."
Albedo, contrary to what any sane person might do in this situation, ducked under Kaeya's arm and ran to the side of his bed for a sketchbook. He took notes on everything he'd just seen to use for his model. Very nice. Yes. The confession totally went over his head and out the roof. He didn't register it being aimed at him.
Kaeya blinked and turned around. "...what? No, no, no, that was a very Albedo thing to do..." he muttered, shaking his head.
"I suppose Klee sent you here," Albedo continued scribbling on his sketchpad.
"No, well, sort of."
"Hm..."
"Albedo," Kaeya pushed the sketchpad down so Albedo would look at him. "I really do love you."
"Love is a fleeting thing, Kaeya," Albedo replied. "I can't believe that you love me."
"Why not?"
"Because if you did," Albedo glanced away, "then I'd have to open myself up to heartbreak again. I would much rather you love me now and give up than love me now and fall out of love with me later..." Albedo bit his lower lip and stared at the ground, then the wall, and everything except Kaeya. He tried not to cry.
Kaeya wrapped his arms around Albedo and held him close, pressing his hand on the back of Albedo's head to push his face into his neck. "I love you, Albedo, but you've turned me down a few times now. I won't force it. I'm the king of unrequited love, after all, so I'll wait for you until you can trust me."
Albedo clung to Kaeya as his mind processed various scenarios. Each one of them not to his liking. He didn't want to turn into another Diluc and he knew how hard it was to be around someone you liked while thinking they felt nothing for you. He didn't want to hurt Kaeya but he also wasn't ready for a relationship.
"Probation..." Albedo muttered.
"Hm?"
"You can be my probationary boyfriend..."
"Are you giving me a test run?" Kaeya tried not to laugh.
"Mhm..." Albedo sniffled, stopping his tears.
"May I ask how long this test run is?"
"Classified."
"Can I still live here even if it's a test run?"
"...?"
"I wouldn't want you to think I'm cheating on you by living with Diluc," Kaeya laughed awkwardly.
"...!!" Albedo nodded. "You can live here again..."
"Will you make me pancakes sometime?"
"I'll need to get blueberries."
"You remember that?" Kaeya swooned, hugging Albedo closer.
"Did you forget the purpose of you living here was so I could memorize how you act?" Albedo struggled to breathe.
"I'll have to take notes on you this time."
"Please don't..." Albedo blushed lightly.
