EvaThe next couple of days was low, Carlos was on time out, and Miles still had me on recruiting duty, at least Luis was here to help, even though I was very much bad at him.
We got into the training grounds to see the recruiters waiting, like expected, it's all boys, don't know what Miles has against training girls.
"You know you don't have to be here?" He said.
"I would rather be in here than in my mind, thank you very much," I said and walked over to the table.
I picked up the throwing knives and threw them up in the air a few times to get used to the balanced weight.
After a lot of practice exercises, I had finally mastered it.
Luis followed me,
"I thought you and Miles had a deal, why does he have you doing this instead?"
"I guess he doesn't count on me, just like someone I know." I shot back, and he caught up quickly.
"I get you're upset."
"You got that right, I'm upset, very upset. All this time, and not once did you mention it to me. I thought we were friends, I thought I was finally part of the team... Honestly, I don't know what I thought....how very foolish of me." I kept throwing as I let out the betrayal I felt,
"It wasn't in my place to say anything, and you know, my loyalty would always lay with Carlos."
I stopped,
"You could've told me anyway, I thought that's what friends are for, but again, I was wrong." I brushed past him, and moved to address the new recruits, "Okay, gather around." I demanded. They all made a circle around me . "We would start with knife throwing," I stated as ran my finger along the edge of the blade.
I flung the knife over my shoulder and hit the board, close to the bullseye.
"Now if you want knives to be your specialty, stay in line, if not, stand in the opposite direction," I said, I was mad so it almost seemed like I was scowling at them.
Most of them started walking away and I was left with just two boys, a tall boy, and another boy.
"What are your names?" I asked them.
"Miguel." the tall boy answered.
"Gray." the other boy said.
"Alright, I'm Eva, and I used to be a rookie just like you. I was terrible at knife throwing, so you can trust when I say I understand how this feels."
They laugh.
"Being young and wanting to join the Mafia must be tough, especially if you're not born into it, that I also understand, you get no special treatments here and have to everything the hard way, especially if you're a girl, but all that is about to change. "
They laugh shortly.
"Here." I handed them the blades, "This how you do it.....you release the blade when you're arm is almost fully extended." I pointed my knife at them. "This is how you hold it, hold it firmly." I showed them how my fingers wrapped around the blade. "And then, you throw." I flung the blade at the board, hitting the bullseye. "You want the blade to fly through the air with ease," I explained, examining the blades. "Ok start throwing," I started spinning my finger in a circle motion and turned towards Luis.
He begs for a second,
I smiled at the boys and then walked towards Luis.
"What?" I glared at him, "Now you have something to say--"
