Kanao traced her finger across the wound on Tanjiro's neck, before reaching into a bin to grab some bandages.
She carefully wrapped them around his neck, a comfortable silence filling the room before Tanjiro spoke up. "Hey Kanao.." he said, his voice trailing off. "I gotta tell you something, but you have to promise me to not take it the wrong way."
"I won't. What's your question?" She asked, backing away now that she finished applying the bandages.
"What does.. l-love feel like?" He asked, quickly regretting his statement right after. He began waving his arms frantically in the air. "I'm only asking you since you probably talk to Mitsuri a lot.. I see her and Shinobu hanging out all the time." He yelled nervously.
Tanjiro personally didn't think he was in love with Kanao, but his feelings were confusing him. Yes she was very pretty, and yes she has a good personality, but they just met somewhere around two months ago.
Kanao let out a small giggle. "It's no problem, Tanjiro," she smiled, grabbing his hand softly, dragging him out of the room.
"Oh- Kanao? Where are we going?" He asked, running alongside Kanao.
Kanao gripped his hand tighter. "You'll see," she smiled.
Soon they ended up on the roof of the butterfly estate, the two laying side by side staring up at the stars.
"I remember Mitsuri had a long conversation with me about love, she told me that the first step is feeling butterflies. You know, the butterflies you get in your stomach? Where you feel all tingly," She laughed quietly, keeping her gaze locked on the stars.
"Mitsuri is a lot of things but she's definitely not a good advice giver," Kanao stated. "Tanjiro, do you know what I mean by the butterflies in your stomach?"
"Yes, I've gotten them before, I know how it feels." He said, looking back at final selection when he first saw her.
"She said if you feel butterflies right when you see someone then it's love at first sight," Kanao said, recalling the long exhausting conversation with Mitsuri.
Tanjiro's heart sank at this. "Lo-Love at first sight??" He struggled. "Kanao.. I think I'm in love with someone!" He blurted out, quickly smacking his mouth right after.
"Really? Who is it, Tanjiro?" She asked, the only emotion that she could feel at the moment coming over her...
Anger.
Why am I so angry at that? I need to keep my nose out of his business. Kanao thought, extremely confused at her own feelings.
"I..I'm sorry Kanao, but I can't say who." Tanjiro sighed.
Although it was dark outside, Kanao could see how Tanjiro's face was impossibly red.
She could only hope that she was the person he was thinking of.
What am I thinking?! We just met not even two months ago. How and why would Tanjiro Kamado be in love with me?? She scolded herself.
"Oh, well I hope she feels the same," Kanao closed her eyes and smiled quietly.
"Thank you, Kanao," Tanjiro said.
"Oh, it's no problem. I'm sure she's feels the same anyway, any girl would like a-" Kanao started but was quickly interrupted by Tanjiro.
"No, no. I mean thank you for saving me earlier today. It means so much to me." He sighed.
"Tanjiro, I've already said it was no problem," Kanao laughed.
Tanjiro nodded his head, turning his head back towards the stars.
"Hey hey! Kanao! Look, that ones in the shape of a butterfly!" Tanjiro smiled, pointing his hand up in the air.
Kanao admired the star closely. It looked just like the butterfly clip on her head.
It took a while for her to notice, but Kanao was beginning to feel really cold. It was night time, meaning that it was at least 40 degrees outside and Kanao was only wearing a tank top.
"Tanjiro, I think I have to head home. It's getting pretty cold out," she said, slowly scooting away from him.
In reaction to this, Tanjiro quickly grabbed her hand.
"Wait, Kanao, here!" Tanjiro said, slipping his haori off of his shoulders. He let go of her hand, setting his haori on her shoulders.
Kanao was sure that her face was as red as a tomato right now. She just hoped Tanjiro couldn't see it.
She laid back down next to Tanjiro, now a lot warmer. Not to mention, the haori smelled like strong vanilla.
"Hey, thanks Tanjiro!" Kanao smiled.
"Ye-yeah! It's no problem," Tanjiro laughed nervously, his face incredibly red.
"Hey Tanjiro! Those stars are in the shape of a heart!" Kanao said pointing up tot he sky.
Tanjiro then let his feelings take over, reaching his hand up and placing it on top of Kanao's, so both of their hands were pressed closely together, pointing at the heart shaped star.
