Once Upon a Time, There was Love

"I never had a good relationship with my mother, until that day. I am grateful that we both realized how much we loved each other, and cared for each other."

Three years ago... 

There was a new kid in Bel High. Rumour was that he was the most charming and handsome. But, Natalie was not ready to believe it, "Please, that is said for EVERY new boy in school. What do you think, Amy?" "My name is Amber, AMBER. We have been best friends for two years and you still don't know my name!" "Amber, Amy, same thing! Now, will you answer my question? Oh wait, Sam! What took you so long?" 

"Please Nat, don't. I don't want to be known as Sam, my name is Samantha." "Well, whatever! We are best friends. Anyway, me and Alice have been waiting for you for, like, the entire day! Where have you even been?" "Let's just go, school is over and I don't wanna stay here any longer than I need to." 

The three best friends walk home, talking about their day and, of course, the new kid. "Look, Anna, I don't want to argue with you, but you can't fall for a dude you haven't even talked to!" "First, it's Amber, and second, you're not my mom. "Ya'll, stop screaming, you'll wake up the entire neighbourhood." 

The next day, at school...

The girls were on their way to school, when they saw someone going towards the same direction. "Ooh! Who is this hot guy?", Nat seemed interested in the guy walking to Bel High, "I haven't seen him around before, when did he get here?" "Nat, that's the new kid. I told you he was worth falling for!" "What did you just say, Amanda? That's the new dude? Ugh. What a waste of beauty... I ain't gonna fall for him, EVER!" 

After school was over... 

News was spreading quickly about the fight Amber and a girl had during lunch. Everyone was gossiping about this fresh new topic, "Anne! What was wrong with you! Why did you get into a fight? I thought that you're the kind of person that avoids fights..." "Yeah, Amber, what even happened?" "Elise, that bit-" "Shush! Can you calm down, Amber? Just take a deep breath and tell us all about it, okay? Sharing it can help you calm down." "Sam, you don't understand! Elise said that River was her boyfriend! Who does she even think she is? She was clearly lying, that annoying brat!" "Look, whatever happened is now in the past, try to move on, things like this will always happen." 

"Wait, firstly who the heck is River and why do you even care about him, didn't you have a crush on the new kid?" "River IS the new kid Nat! That Elise will pay for what she said! It is crystal clear that she was making it all up, River is mine!" 

"Huh? River... I see. Everyone is flowing towards him, LIKE A RIVER! Now I get why his parents named him that... but how did they know? Wait! They must have "flowed" towards him too! Aha!" "Please stop, Nat, she is just going to get more annoyed.", Sam whispered to Nat.

After Nat rolled her eyes, Sam pulled her forward and they continued walking towards their houses. When Amber reached home, her mother called her to have a talk with her. Amber walked behind her mother into another room, but before entering, she turned her head to see her five-year-old brother playing games on his I-Pad. That sight, for no real reason, made her realize something, but it was something she could not put into words.

"Young lady, I got a call from your Principal that you got into a serious fight with another girl. What is this all about? I thought I trusted you to not get into such a situation!"

"Sorry mother. It won't happen again.", Amber said while looking at the wood flooring, she could feel tears forming, but dare not let them fall. She thought, "I am in high school, a teenager, how could I make such a mistake... I-I can't cry, not in front of mother."

"Look at me, this instant.", Amber was hesitant to show the tears that were about to fall, "I won't say it twice, so do it before you make this situation any worse for yourself."

Amber looked at her mother, seeing her tears, Amber's mother suddenly moved forward. Amber closed her eyes, too scared to know what would happen to her next, but she felt someone embrace her. She opened her eyes, to she that her mother was hugging her.

"Mo-mother... what... what are you doing?", Amber was shocked to see her mother's eyes filled with tears too.

"Sweetheart, I didn't mean make you cry. All the time, I ask you to do things, that you may not want to. I made you feel different, and caused you to be distant from most other students, but I hope you understand that I did it all for the sake of your betterment.", Amber was lost for words, and the only thing she did was hug her mother back.

"I love you, mother."

"I love you too, sweetheart."

Suddenly, Amber's vision turned black and she lost consciousness.
