The next day, at school...
The three of them were walking through the corridor when they noticed that River was surrounded by all the popular girls. All three of them suddenly felt angry because of that sight, "Ugh! How dare they!"
Nat immediately looked away, but was fuming with anger. She walked away from the crowd, leaving her friends behind, and went to the bathroom. She splashed her face with water and looked in the mirror, "How? How did I end up here?", she said, shaking her head.
After drying her face, she walked out of the bathroom to find someone waiting for her outside, "Eeek! Wait, what are you doing here?"
"Ah, well, I saw you walking away and thought you may need someone to talk to..."
"No thanks, but I'm fine."
"Heh. Whatever you say, ma'am."
"I- excuse me, what?"
"I was just kidding!"
Nat turned her head away angrily as River burst out laughing.
While this was happening, Amber was looking at them from the corner of the corridor.
She turned around, "River... what is he doing with her?", she looked back at them.
She saw them laughing and talking, it seemed like they were pretty close. This was not good news for Amber, "I-I need to do something about this...", she said while striding side to side.
She took one last glance at them and ran away to a deserted corridor, so she could figure something out, "Agh! She said that she wouldn't like him but-", the school bell cut her off.
Amber took a deep breath and made her way to her next class.
After school...
Sam and Nat were waiting for Amber to come, but even after a while, there was no sign of her, "I wonder where Agatha disappeared..."
"Yeah, she's usually the one waiting for us.", Sam said, while Nat nodded her head in agreement.
"You know, we can't wait for her all day..."
"Yeah... but let's just wait for a few more minutes... once everyone is gone we can leave too."
"Well, sure, but after that, we're leaving."
"Okay... I'm just a little worried..."
"Don't worry Sam! I'm sure Abigail had to stay back to talk to a teacher or something..."
"Yeah, I guess you're right.", Sam said and she gave one last look at the school gates before she turned around to leave.
What neither of them knew was that Amber had left school much earlier, she was already home trying to find a way to make Nat like someone else. She was quickly getting insecure about herself because her crush was clearly attracted to her friends rather than her, "Dammit! Out of all the pretty girls at school, why did it have to be Nat?"
Suddenly the sound of her phone ringing caught Amber's attention, and she went towards her bed, where she had left her phone, "Sam? Why is Sam calling me now?", she said, before picking up the phone.
"Hello, Amber? Are you okay?"
"Um, of course, Sam. I am fine, but why are you calling now?"
"Well, me and Nat were waiting for you after school was over, but you never showed up, so I was a little worried."
"Oh, right. I left earlier because of some stuff at home. Don't worry about it!"
"Okay, then. I'll talk to you later, bye."
"Yeah, bye!", she couldn't help but smile once she had cut the call, but she snapped back to reality when she remembered why she had really left school earlier. Amber spent the next few hours striding up and down her room, trying to find a solution to her problem.
The next day, at school...
The girls had met up to go to school together, as they did on every school-day, "I am glad that you are fine, Allister."
"Ah, yeah, I am perfectly fine, thank you."
"Haha, what's with your new form of speech?"
"Nope. It is nothing at all, you should not worry about it."
"Yeah, sure.", Nat felt awkward because of the way Amber was talking to her.
"I really don't remember doing anything wrong..", Nat thought to herself.
Over the next few days, Nat was getting distant from her friends because she felt weird by how Amber spoke to her. This led to her being seen with River more often, which made Amber's blood boil every time. During this time, Amber kept trying to find ways of making Nat and River's relationship bitter, and the only thing that kept her calm was Sam, who she now spoke with quite often.
The girls were getting separated, but there was no real hate between them, until one day...
At school, all the classes were over...
Amber was at the empty corridor, talking to herself about how bad she felt and how much she envied Nat, "I will make sure that River NEVER wants to see Nat's face ever again!", she shouted loudly.
As she was calming herself down, she heard a voice, "W-what..?"
She turned around to see that Nat was standing there, shocked.
