The next few days of school went by pretty fast. When the last bell rang on Friday you were glad that you survived your first week at Ridgeway but it was a mixed feeling, knowing you still had to come back to school on Saturday. So, the next day your alarm clock rang at 7:25 AM just like any other day. At first you were kind of confused but then remembered you had to go help Freddie. You quickly got dressed and brushed your teeth. When you got downstairs you strapped Chris' collar around his neck and took him for a quick walk. When you got back you noticed you were running late so you quickly ate a sandwich and picked up your bike from the garage. You got on it and cycled to school. When you arrived, you felt your phone buzzing in the pocket of your jacket. It was a text from Freddie saying he was alright at the school's conference hall and that you had to use the back entrance. You walked around the building and went to the conference room. When you walked in you saw Freddie already mapping out how to set up everything for the auditions.
"I'm sorry I'm late man." you said and laid your jacket on the stage. Freddie said it was no problem and that he had barely started he was just glad you were willing to help out. "No problem, man. But don't forget you owe me for this." You replied. Freddie laughed and agreed. Together you started setting up the camera, the lights and the microphones. "So, it'll be just us and Carly I presume?" you asked. "Yeah, it'll be great. I bet she'll be stunned when she walks in. She asked for just a camera. Wait till she sees all this stuff I've set up for her." Freddie said overjoyed. "Uhm... We set up for her." you corrected him. Freddie laughed and apologized. "You think it's enough?" he asked looking kind of worried. "Don't worry man. I bet she'll love the gesture you're trying to make with this. It shows you're willing to put in work for her and all. It'll be a matter of time before she's swooning over you." you said trying to reassure your friend.
After an hour of setting up the equipment you heard the door of the hall open and two girls came in. The dark-haired girl you had seen a few times this week and Sam. Freddie looked up from his work and had a look of disgust on his face. "Oh no!! I didn't know THAT would be here!" he yelled. Sam wasn't pleased to see him either and sighed. "I'm a girl Freddie, as in female." Sam said annoyed. "Pfff, barely." He replied snarky. You kind of enjoyed the bickering between those two but you had to stop it for now. You still had the entire day in front of you. "Come on guys. This will be allot easier when we're not at each other's throats the entire time." You said coming between them. Sam hadn't noticed you were here too and her face instantly brightened up. "Hi, new kid. I didn't know you'd be here." She said kind trying to hide some nerves. "Don't call him that! He has a name!" Freddie said annoyed. "It's fine man." You said calming him down again. "Yeah, Freddie asked me to help set things up for the auditions today. We thought why not give it a more professional vibe." You replied pointing at the lights and microphones you two had set up.
"Oh cool. Didn't know you were into that dorky stuff too Y/N. Will you stay with us during the auditions?" she asked while looking at you with her beautiful eyes. You didn't know why this kept happening. Every time she did this you got a bit flustered. You actually planned to set things up and head home again, knowing Freddie could quickly take everything down by himself, but Sam did make you rethink that plan. It'd be a great opportunity to get to know them and maybe make some new friends. "Well... I guess I can stay if that's okay with you guys? I didn't really have anything else planned for today." You said and Sam smile widened when she heard you'd be spending the entire day together. "Awesome! I bet we need the help Y/N. That twerp can't handle it by himself j bet." she said ecstatic. You and Sam kept looking at each other not really knowing what to say next.
You didn't want to make things awkward so you switched your attention to the dark-haired girl. "Sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I'm Y/N. I think you're in my English class, right?" You said and you reached out your hand to her. You kind of expected her not to shake it like Sam did, but she unexpectedly did and smiled warmly at you. "Hi Y/N, I'm Carly." Said Carly. "Do you like it here in Seattle so far? Must be pretty different from Cleveland, right?" she asked wanting to know more about you. You started talking with them about your first week at Ridgeway, forgetting the time. After a while Freddie noticed the auditions were about to start. You looked at the clock and it was almost nine so you and Freddie quickly dispersed to do the finishing touches. You gave Carly and Sam a mic in case they needed it and you crawled behind your laptop to look over everything. Your main job was checking if the audio values were all set up correctly and that the lighting wasn't too harsh for the camera. Carly and Sam sat down at the table that was set up for them while Freddie gave you and the girls the thumbs up, signalling you two were all set to start shooting. The first few contestants came in and they weren't really that special. During the auditions you occasionally noticed Sam taking a peek at you. You thought of the way she asked you to stay and how happy she was when you did. "Does she really like me being here? Why doesn't she pick on me like she does with all the other new students according to Freddie?" you thought. Freddie noticed Sam staring at you too and he looked a bit confused but didn't think much of it before continuing adjusting the camera. After an hour of seeing kids dance, crack jokes, acting, singing badly and playing random instruments you noticed that most of these kids were awful at their so called "talents". The day was really getting tedious when a tall kid did an awful skit from a French play. You thought it couldn't get any worse but it did when a short boy came on stage and started beat boxing awkwardly. The only thing that made it fun was hearing Carly and Sam make fun of them when they had left the stage. Other than that, it was horrific.
