Lavender light was all he could see as the radiance illuminated the surroundings. Blinking slowly, the blurriness started to steadily subside. A small headache began to form as he shook it from side to side.
"Blu, grab on, quickly!" A strained voice gasped. Familiar red claws were held out to him, waiting for him to grab on.
Still partially blinded, he snagged the claws with both his hands. He clenched his teeth as glass shards dug into his left palm from earlier. Tiny beads of blood slipped from his pale skin.
Gabby lifted her petite, panic-stricken boyfriend to her chest, cradling him bridle style. Unable to speak from shock, he mouthed a gentle 'thank you.'
The lavender demon spread her crimson-tinted bat wings and effortlessly launched into the dark sky. The red glow from her eyes was the only source of light.
Blu started to relax a little in Gabby's muscular arms. Only a little. There was still a giant black cloud circling the city along with a sudden spike in demonic activity. But other than that, all fine and dandy.
"What's happening?" Blu managed to beep. He felt Gabby's claws clench him a little tighter as her lips tightened.
"I'll explain once we're safe." She growled.
"Aren't we safe here in the sky? You are your mother are the only demons that can fly around th-"
He shut his mouth after Gabby cut him off with a savage snarl. Looking up at her, her cat-like slit pupils were fixed on the clouds below them.
Oh great, now what?
A colossal figure rose from the clouds, beating its leathery wings and throwing wind currents aside. The furious creature's throaty roar echoed around them, shaking their very core.
It was a demon, what else could it be? It didn't resemble a human in the slightest, just like the one in the ice cream parlor. The monstrous being's appearance replicated that of an eight limbed dragon. Two wide wings kept the demon in the sky while it flexed their four legs and two arms. Its scales were midnight black and barely visible in the sky.
All demons had red eyes. Some can disguise themselves as humans and change their eye and skin color, grow or shrink, and hide limbs and other appendages to appear human... all to hunt the very prey they were disguised as. Demons only need to feed on animal blood to survive, but humans just so happened to be the tastiest and most nutritious meal for demons.
The first time Gabby laid eyes on Blu, she only saw him as a potential meal. Hell, she didn't even have to attempt to lure him in to ambush and kill him. He basically lured her to him.
Blu had a strange aura that drew her in. Perhaps it was the way he looked at her. Or how he always attempted to protect and defend her. It might just be how he doesn't fear her demon form. In fact, he was even more fascinated by her ever since she revealed her demonic form. Gabby truly loved the little man and would literally die for him.
And that time may be now.
She flared her own wings downward, spiraling towards the ground. Blu snapped his eyes shut and buried his face against her shoulder, the force of gravity threatening to tear him apart.
The serpent followed them, snapping at them with jagged blood-stained fangs. Gabby swerved in and out the clouds with unpredictable patterns. The wind screamed in their pointy ears as the cityscape on the ground grew closer.
Blu knew where she was heading. Her parents lived in a penthouse on top of one of their major company offices, one nestled right besides the ocean. They were celebrities and earned a good portion of revenue from merchandise and concerts, but they also owned a variety of corporations where their immense wealth actually came from.
