Gemma P.O.V
Faye stands up, straightens out her dress, and struts away from the fire pit. She is not happy. Brad could have kissed Kaz or Sharon in the challenge. He was only being honest when he chose Faye. At least their bickering relationship has been nipped in the bud.
"Gemma? Can we have a chat?" Faye asks, but it's more of a demand. She gestures me over to the kitchen. I don't know why she would be mad at me. I haven't made any moves on Brad. It's all come from him.
"Is everything alright?" I ask as we sit down on the barstools. She doesn't look impressed at all. If looks could kill, I'd be six-foot under.
"I just wanted to make sure that we were okay after the challenge." Faye fakes a smile. Through the makeup, it's clear as day that she's pissed off. "I think Brad was a bit of a dick to kiss me. He made me look like such a mug."
"What do you mean?"
"He could've kissed one of the other girls that he's mates with. Sharon wouldn't have cared. He embarrassed me in front of everyone!"
"Well, I don't think it was about you. He was only being honest."
Faye's face turns from approval to disgust. She lets out a sarcastic laugh. "Well, you don't know girl code, do you?"
I feel nauseous. Why is she getting so angry with me?
"... What?"
"Well, you're not sticking up for me."
"I'm not sticking up for Brad either. The dare wasn't nice, but it was a dare."
"No, stop." Faye holds her hand out to my face. "You are standing up for Brad. Everyone can see that he fancies you. No matter what you'll keep him around so he saves you a place in here."
What the fuck.
"That's not right, at all." I stop her. The volume is increasing and I know that everyone is staring at us. I'm trying to stay calm. I know Faye is going to lose it with me.
"Fine then. Do you like him? I've been coupled with him since the start and you haven't said a fucking word to me about it."
Do I like Brad? I think I do. I feel all fuzzy when I'm around him. But what about Hugo? He feels more like a mate right now, but I know there's so much potential there.
"I don't know... Maybe?"
"Cut the bullshit, Gemma. You're better than that."
Hugo P.O.V
The firepit is flickering violently tonight. I sip on my beer slowly, listening to Toby drone on about football stuff that I don't care about.
"Wait wait ... what's going on there?" Toby points to the kitchen.
Faye and Gemma are perched on the bar stools, making conversation with one another. Except it doesn't look like a friendly conversation. I'm too far away to hear it. Faye is getting arsy. She's waving around her drink as she talks, flailing her arms. I can feel her eyes roll from meters away.
"Should we go over there?"
"Probably," I nod. "Come on."
Faye and I have grown closer over the past few days. She's fun to be around and speaks her mind, which I like. Gemma is the girl next door. She's sweet, innocent, and has the best body of all the girls. Everyone can see that. Even Toby and Jake have said it.
I feel protective of Gemma. Every time I look into those deep blue eyes, I feel on edge. No butterflies. Just a little nervous. It takes a lot for me to feel that way for a girl, especially in such a short period. I don't want to close off either Faye or Gemma. Time will tell me who I'm meant to be with.
