Chapter 7: The Call

It was early morning, Yamaguchi and Kyotani are preparing to go out on a jog. The freckled boy was just waiting for Kyotani to come back home since he needed to go to the landlord and pay for this month's rent. So he sat by the door, petting Blergh, who was resting on his lap.

"You sure you do want to come with us Blergh?" Yamaguchi said with a soft voice. Blergh just purred quietly before stretching his arms and legs. "Alright, just behave yourself okay?" 

Kyotani's phone suddenly rang. It looks like the mad dog left it. He went over to check who it was and saw "Mom" flashing on the screen. Realizing it was someone important, Yamaguchi grabbed the phone, almost dropping it in his haste to answer the call. The moment Yamaguchi picked up, he heard someone gasped at the other line. It was almost like the person who called didn't expect the phone to be answered.

"Hello? Kentaro? Is this you? Oh, no...." She paused for a second. "Please don't hurt my son, I swear He is a good boy!!"

"What?" Yamaguchi stuttered and was confused. "Good morning, Ma'am. Um..... Kyo, I mean Kentaro is out at the moment, but he'll probably be home soon."

"Oh, okay."I thought he was kidnapped for a second. She thought to herself. "Who am I speaking with?"

"Yes Ma'am! I'm, Yamaguchi Tadashi! Ma'am! Roommate! Ma'am!" The freckled boy even stood up straight and saluted with his other hand for some reason. Blergh just stared at him, her eyes widened. She must think he was on drugs or something.

 My little boy has a roommate!? "Calm down Yamaguchi, you don't have to treat me like that." 

"I'm sorry Ma'am." Yamaguchi flinched when he realized he said it again and just took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. "I mean-"

"You can call me Kozue. Kozue Kyotani." She said before giggling out how the freckled boy was reacting. Of course, like the Yamaguchi that we know, he tried to make things a little simpler.

"Can I call you Zue-san?" 

"That's really cute. I like that, please do."

"Thank you Zue-san!" 

Zue-san and Yamaguchi talked for a bit. She was very curious about how the two end up staying on the same roof too and when she brought that up, the freckled boy remembers that their 5th monthsary was coming close. It turns out each month, Yamaguchi tries to bake for the Mad dog as thanks for letting him stay with him.

He kept falling and felt bad about the many chicken eggs he had murdered just because of his failed attempts, plus ingredients aren't cheap. So he decided to just buy Kyotani store-bought cake and tell him he made it. Which would have worked if Yamaguchi didn't forget to throw the receipt and if the freckled boy didn't act so nervously the entire time. 

"I hope my little boy didn't hurt you or anything," Zue-san jokingly said.  

"What? No, he would never do that." Yamaguchi cried out, coming in for the defense. "He's actually very kind and gentle!!!"

I'm starting to think I dialed the wrong number. Zue-san thought to herself. "Are you sure we're talking about my son there Yamaguchi?"

"Absolutely!!"The freckled boy said with gusto. "Anyways, Kyo just watched me baked that day too since he wanted to know how I did it. Of course, I failed at it, miserably. He laughed and told me he knew I was lying from the start since the receipt was still under the box."

Kozue can't help but giggle a little at that story Yamaguchi told her. "I'm sorry about that Yamaguchi. But I'm glad you're getting along with my boy." She said. "I know he can be, difficult at times and I hope you don't stop getting along together."

"Oh not at all." Yamaguchi quickly replied. "Kyo is actually not that hard to like and care for, so don't worry about it Zue-san!! I'll take good care of him! Or at least, try to..."

Wow, I'm surprised Kentaro got along with anyone. "That's very sweet of your Yamaguchi, I appreciate that." She didn't personally know who she was talking to at that moment but she can feel that the freckled boy really cares about her son, and she was relieved to know that.
