Ten months ago, Izuku made a new friend and during that time, his life was filled with more laughter, smiles… and explosions than ever before. And it all started after the random encounter at the dump introduced him to a fellow inventor his age that was there testing something she made.
And now the two of them were at UA, both applying for the support course. "Mei, hold on, give me a sec!" And despite the fact that Izuku was still trying to put his skateboard into his bag, he had to run to keep up as his friend, Mei Hatsume, dragged him along by the arm.
"Science waits for none, Greenie!"
"Not my name! Ah, almost… got it, alright, let's go-oh!" Izuku fell forward as his foot caught a loose tile. He closed his eyes and braced for impact, yet pain didn't come, and as he opened his eyes, he found himself floating with Mei still holding onto him like he was some kind of balloon. "Mei, are you experimenting on me again?"
"Ah, that was me, sorry for using my quirk on you without warning."
Izuku turned around to see who had spoken, seeing a girl with shoulder length brown hair. "Oh, no problem. Thanks for that." Mei pulled him back to the ground, laughing as she did, as the girl pressed her fingers together, the feel of gravity returning to him.
"It's nothing, just thought it'd be a bad omen to trip, anyway, gotta go."
"So do we, come on Izu!" Izuku let out a small, undignified Yelp as Mei suddenly grabbed the back of his collar and began running again.
He eventually was able to get his feet under him and was no longer in danger of falling and being dragged along the ground, with Mei finally letting go. “You still worried about the exams?”
“You know me, champion worrier, but then again, I have to deal with you and that special brand of chaos you bring around with you everywhere.”
“Heh heh heh, failure is the mother of invention, and one cannot be afraid of it.”
“Honestly, I don’t know which I’m more scared of. You or your spectacular fails.”
“Hey, I have a question…”
“Yeah?”
“What room are we testing in again?”
Izuku sighed before leading the way, Mei happily humming to herself as they walked. “I worry about you sometimes, Mei.” Her only response was to chuckle at his words. “Well, looks like we’re here. Try not to fail, I can’t really give this school some hell without my partner in crime.”
“Heh, please, there’s no way I’ll fail. The question is whether or not UA is going to be able to handle the full force of what we’re going to unleash on this world.” The pair walked into the room, taking seats as they prepared for the long test ahead of them. Not only did they get the same basics as other courses, but there were so many other questions pertaining to the fields of engineering and other things they’d need, that they could have made a separate test for it.
"Hey Izu~"
Izuku looked up from what he was working on, looking confused as to why Mei was barging to his room. "Huh, Mei? Why are you here? Did we have something planned and I just forgot?" He raked his brain, but he just couldn't remember them having anything planned.
"Oh, I see you're working on Project lens. Finally found a solution to that little snag?"
“Hmm, yeah, I think so. Still having a little trouble getting the connection to flow smoothly. But I definitely should be done before school starts. Wait, don’t dodge the question.”
“Speaking of school.” Mei held up a letter. “Our letters came.” The tools in Izuku’s hands dropped from his hands as he stared at them, having forgotten they were supposed to arrive that day or the next. “AND, in case you’re wondering, I didn’t just barge in, your mom invited me. She also invited my parents, but they couldn’t make it.”
Izuku’s mother poked her head through the door behind Mei. “Surprise!”
“Get a hold of yourself Greenie!” Mei tossed the letter at Izuku who fumbled as he nearly dropped it. He silently opened it up and out fell a small disk. Izuku tapped it and a hologram appeared above it, showing pro hero Power Loader.
“Hello there kid, I’m Power Loader, a teacher at UA, and you, Izuku Midoriya, have made it. Hope you’re ready to work in UA’s workshop.”
Izuku leaned back as he ran his hands through his hair, staring at the now dormant disk in front of him. “Oh, you did it Honey!” Inko threw herself onto her son as she squeezed him in a hug, Izuku laughing while she did.
“I-I did it!”
“Hey, do you think they’d mind if we dissected these things and made use of the parts ourselves?”
“Hmm, good question.”
“Alright you two, you can save your tech talk for after dinner. Come, come, I already have it set up on the table.”
“Okay~!”
“Come on Izu, turn them on already!”
“Hold on, I’m still putting it on!” Izuku fitted on what he and Mei had named, Project lens. An eyewear that had a single visor, a metal bar running back and around Izuku’s head, holes for the ears with an earbud in one, a knob on the side to adjust how tightly it fit him, and a single red orb sitting above Izuku’s nose on the top part of the visor. Pressing a discrete button on them, they powered on, and Izuku watched as the world around seemed to shift slightly before settling again, but with a few changes, like a clock in the corner of his vision, along with a battery that showed the device’s remaining charge. “Overlay successful.” Mei nodded and pressed something on her phone, and a second later, a small blue square appeared in the corner of his vision. Izuku reached up, gloves on his hands connected to his eyewear wirelessly, allowing him to actually interact with the square, making a message from Mei pop up.
‘How is our baby?’
Izuku sighed and shook his head, bringing up an AR keyboard and typed a reply. ‘First of all, it’s working fine, and secondly, can you not phrase it like that?’
“Alright, basic tests are done, now it’s on to the fun stuff!”
“Yeah yeah, hold on.” Izuku reached up and from the corner of the visor, he pulled down a small microphone. “X, activate.”
“Suit not connected. Inventory not connected. System not connected.”
“Survey area.”
“One subject, 10ft ahead. Surrounded by mounds of haphazard objects. Lack sufficient area data to navigate. Location: Dagoba Beach.” Izuku gave a thumbs up to Mei, who then reached into her pocket and brought out a small canister before tossing it on the ground, smoke billowing out from it. “Subject inbound.” The visor automatically switched over to infrared as it warned Izuku of Mei’s approach.
“Did it work?”
Izuku smiled as he powered down the visor and began taking everything off. “Yep, we finally did it. And once we can start working on it at UA, we’ll be able to do so much more.”
“Yup, and it all begins tomorrow!”
