I opened my eyes for the second time today. I crossed my arms so that they were sitting on top of one another. I found myself playing with an odd kind of bracelet. My vision adjusted and I saw I was in a room of white.

I lay in a bed of crisp white sheets and wearing a white dressing gown, with a computer thingy kept buzzing in my ears. I thought as if my brain would explode if I had to listen to this for any longer. I pulled myself out of the bed and found I was attached to it by many cords and pipes.

The door began to creak open. I jumped back into the bed with noticed a strange throbbing sensation in my legs.

The door opened to reveal a man and a younger woman entering the room wearing what looked like the same white dressing gown I was wearing myself. I watched them carefully, with one eye closed and the other half open watching them, pretending to be asleep.

"Well what do you think?" the women asked the man as she folded more white sheets into a pile at the end of my bed.

"Lost, tired, pathetic. What sort of person falls asleep in the snow?" He grunted as he looked my way.

I shut my eye completely. I lay there for a while listening to them chat about medication and ignorant children falling asleep in stupid places just to get attention.

I realised they were talking about me. I am not ignorant. And I'm sure I did not fall asleep.

The buzzing of the computer had taken over my head and I couldn't take another minute of being talked about.

I sat firmly up right and yelled at the man. "I am not ignorant. You're ignorant for saying I'm ignorant!" I crossed my arms together and lifted my chin.

Both adults turned to look at me, startled.

The man loomed over me as he came closer. A look of disgust appeared on his face.

"Ignorant child," he spat and walked out of the room, slamming the door on his way out.

"Sorry about him dear," the lady spoke to me gently. "We didn't think you had woken up just yet."

"Oh, right," I mumbled as the lady began to leave. "Wait! Can I ask you something?" She turned around and sat beside me.

"Am I in heaven?"

She stared at me for a split second and then laughed. I don't think I've ever heard an adult laugh so much before. She looked at my face and realised I wasn't trying to be funny at all.

"No dear. You're in a hospital," she glanced at my expression and carried on. "This is where I work. I'm a nurse."

"So you're not an angel?" I asked, confused.

"Definitely not!" She carried on folding more white sheets. "Sorry to disappoint." She added.

Hospital? How did I ever get here?

"One more thing, why am I here?" I queried.

The lady sighed, then smiled sweetly at me. "You have a very serious case of frost bite. Lucky someone found you when they did, otherwise we would have had to amputate."

"What like, cut my legs off!" I cried.

"What's your name dear?" the lady asked curiously. "I have forms to fill in and I need to know your name."

I opened my mouth to reply, but nothing came out. Who am I?
