Dear Readers,
Today the fifth book in the Coffee And Liquor Series has come to an end too and I am so grateful to all of you who stayed with me till the beginning of Tim and Dora's story till now.
First of all, I would like to say my special thanks to the following readers because their votes and comments always made my day and motivated me to keep writing:
And all those who I couldn't mention here, I am extremely thankful to you as well for reading this story. I am glad I got your support and feel blessed to have such supportive readers.
I started Sour Candy so that I could write more about Tim and Dora since I love these two so much. Even I can't believe that from just a brief idea on writing about Tim and a girl owning a coffee shop who figures out his identity as Red Robin due to his caffeine addiction (Caffeine Withdrawal | T. Drake), we've come so far.
The main idea behind Sour Candy was to focus on Tim's healing after he had returned from his year-long mission of ending N.O.W.H.E.R.E and though the first ten chapters focus on that, afterward the story took its own turns that weren't planned initially but I figured things out while writing.
From just a book focusing on Tim's healing, it took Dora into account too after her near-death scenario due to the toxin Scarecrow had given her. that caused complications in her pregnancy.
This story means a lot to me because it deals with a lot more themes than just young love and I have tried my best to capture them within the essence of healing as it was the main theme of the book.
The main aspect I have tried to highlight in the story is Dora's decision of aborting her child and I wanted to show how much emotional toll it takes on a mother who has no other choice but to let go of her child. To this day, many people consider abortion a choice and though in some cases it is, in Dora's case it was a matter of life and death because if she hadn't gone for abortion, she wouldn't have survived.
I wanted to show how difficult it was for her to take that decision and I also wanted to emphasize that the only reason she eventually makes out of the guilt and the pain is that she has Alex, Tim and the rest of the Wayne family to constantly support her through it. I have seen some cases in which women who go through such abortion or a miscarriage get blamed for something that wasn't their fault.
It already is difficult for them to let go of their child and yet people make it harder by not understanding and indirectly (or sometimes directly even) driving them to guilt about it.
This got way longer than I had planned to write about but to me, it is a core issue and that's why I wanted to elaborate more on it.
Another aspect covered in this book is Tim's past with Nyssa of which Mona is a result. I was very hesitant to cover this part because it was such a sensitive topic and I did not want to write about it initially. But after a conversation with PricetagOfficial I considered the possibilities of adding Mona into the story.
It opened up an array of possibilities for me from dealing with how Tim and Dora would handle the situation to Talia's character development as well as a little focus on side characters Udit and Aleama who were initially not supposed to be in the story but became an important part of it later on.
Through Mona's addition, I got to explore Talia's character as well and decided to give her multiple layers instead of just the one-dimensional character of a possessive mother to Damian and an obsessed lover to Batman that she is portrayed mostly in canon and fanfics.
Also, I got to elaborate on the fact that even though Tim has recovered to a great extent, traces of trauma from his past still linger and with Mona coming to them, it all struck him with full force, almost making him disintegrate. Once again, I have emphasized the importance of family and friends because even in this situation, if he hadn't had support and love from them, he would not have been able to hold himself together and might not have accepted Mona.
In all that happened between Tim and Nyssa, Mona had no fault so it was wrong to punish her for something she wasn't even responsible for. As I have stated earlier, this is a sensitive topic and the way things turned out in this story for Tim and Mona is something which doesn't happen often in these cases in real life because either the families aren't supportive or the person does not have the strength to face the situation, for which I do not blame them as I thoroughly understand how difficult it is.
Even here, it takes time for Tim to fully accept Mona and though I have wrapped things up as I had decided to keep this story limited to 50 chapters, I have still tried to make sure that you guys know it wasn't a magic wand situation in which everything went right instantly.
I suppose this is the longest Acknowledgement chapter I've written but seriously, I had so much to say about this story. Thank you for bearing with me.
And now for the surprise...
Did you guys really think we're at the end?
Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you want to see it) I can't stop writing about Tim and Dora. And with Mona's addition, so many new possibilities have opened up for me to take their story forward.
So yes, we do have a sequel and it is titled Cookies And Cream | T. Drake.
As usual I haven't decided much as of now except an initial idea that this story will be focused on Tim, Dora and Mona as a family. However, we will see how things turn out when I do get to write it.
Hope to see you there.
Once again, thanks a lot for reading and supporting this story. Have a lovely day and keep supporting us fanfic writers through your votes and lovely comments because your support means the world to us.
Love from,
Zenina Dawson.
