The Swap

Nervous

I was in bed thinking about the full moon and doubting that it would work on a lazy Saturday afternoon when I get a call from Marissa.

I answer,
"Hello?"
"Hey Joe! Do you have any plans today?"
"Nah babe, why?"
"I wanted to see if you wanted to come over and hang out, watch moves, that kind of stuff."
"Uh,  yeah sure"
"Great, you can come whenever you want. But I need to mention one more thing."
"what?"
"My parents are going to be there for a bit just to meet you and then they'll leave on their date."

My heart basically stopped at the thought of meeting her dad.
"Uh...  Um OK..."
"k well you can come when you're ready"

She then hung up.

I got dressed and made sure to look nice but not too nice that I seem fake.

I arrived at Marissa's house and stood in front of the door.  I took a deep breath and rang the doorbell. The person who answered was her father. He was tall, chubby, and he had a suit on.  He looked at me seriously. I cleared my throat and said, "Hello sir, I'm Jose but people call me Joe."

He looked me up and down and invited me in. The cautious expression didn't leave his face as I walked in. A lady greeted me as I entered their living room, "Hello! You must be Joe! Marissa has told me all about you!"

"Mom!" Marissa says while walking into the room. Her mother smiled and told me to sit.

I sat next to Marissa while her mother kept asking me questions about my life at school like my grades and friends. Her dad just looked at me the whole time.
