The Storm Before Dawn

Chapter 7

Brittany walked into the barn where Flash was waiting already tacked up.

"He's looking good!"

''Thanks!" I was beaming at having been given praise from some one like her.

"You ready to go warm up?"

''Sure if you're ready"

After warming Flash up I point him towards the first 18 inch jump. We fly around the entire course perfectly!

"Nice warm up"

"Would you mind raising them to 2ft?"

"Sure no problem"

Brittany finished setting up the jumps, and again I point Flash at the first jump. He soars clean over it, and continued soaring over all of the jumps. Another clean round.

"Lets raise em to three,''Brittany said.

"Fine with me''

Once she was done I started towards the first jump. Again Flash started showing off so he almost hit it but then started paying attention. He finished flying around the course with a foot to spare on most of them. Then Brittany suggested we raise them up to 3'9, I was nervous but Flash was up for the challenge.

I cantered Flash around for a minute before sending him over the first jump, he cleared it and landed nicely. We flew around the course until we got to the third to last jump. I signaled Flash to take off but he nicked the jump and I heard it thump into the sand. We reached the last jump and cleared it, however he had a harder landing that I would have liked.

I walk over to the fence where Andrea and Brittany were clapping and smiling like they knew something I didn't.

"Congradulations Asha," Brittany said "You just got your self an amazing offer. Since all of my trainers are really busy training all of my upper level horses I dont have anyone training some of my younger horses like Flash's age and level. So I was wondering if I brought like two or three of my horses here for awhile would you be willing to train them as well as you have trained Flash?"

I thought about it for a second, because school was starting in about three weeks I wasn't sure. Then I thought if my mom had said yes then it was fine with me.

"Did you say yes?" I questioned my mom who was standing at the fence too.

"I did"

"Then yes I will!"

"Great!"

"But when school starts can we just have two horses over here at a time because I will still have Dawn and Sky to work?"

"Sure, oh and by the way you get paid $200 a month a horse"

"WHAT?"

"You get paid as much as all of my other trainers so it's fair"

"Wow I can't believe this" I mostly say to my self.

"You also can keep Flash if you want."

"You mean like to train for awhile?"

"No I mean forever"

I lean down and hug Flash who I was still riding, and here I was nervous I wasn't going to be able to keep riding him. Now he's mine!

"Thank you Thank you Thank you sooooooo much!!"

"No problem, I will bring the other horses over tomorrow afternoon if thats ok with you."

"That's GREAT!"

"Ok see you then"

With that Britany turned and walked away.

"I know right I am sooo excited! I mean how many kids get the chance of their life when their only 13!"

"What are you going to do with Sky?" Zara asked

"Well she is still really young and green so I will still work her as much. And maybe I will have you and Zœ help me with her!"

"That's good, I think!"

"Yeah, but I will still play with her and train her most of the time, but she won't get AS much attention."

"Can I come over tonight to celebrate your accomplishments?"

"Sure when can you come over?"

"In like ten minutes"

"Sweet see you then!"

I hung up my cellphone and Mint and I went outside to tell my mom. I thought she was feeding the horses but I couldn't find her. The truck and trailer were gone too, I assumed she went on another rescue but I wasn't sure. I walked around the barns and finally found Audrey.

"Hey Audrey have you seen my mom?"

"No I just got here, sorry"

"That's fine, thanks"

I searched around for my mom or anyone who would have seen her but no one had. About 15 minutes later u hear a door slam and hear Zara running to the barn. I ran out to meet her and we almost ram into each other because we were so excited!

"Congratulations!!"

"Thanks!! It's going to be crazy when school starts though!!!

"Yeah, but if you ever need help you can call me!"

"Thanks!"

"Can we go put my stuff inside it's kind of getting heavy?"

"Sure lets go"

We ran into the house and threw her stuff into my room and ran back down stairs.

"You want to work Jet and Sky?" I asked Zara.

"Hmmmm let me think.. Of COURSE!!!"

We ran back outside and tacked up our horses in record time and met out by our favorite trail.

"Race you to the far side of the meadow!" I called to Zara

"I will totally win!"

"No you won't!"

We started off neck to neck when Jet showing off his name started pulling ahead. Sky didn't want to be left behind though, she was racing to catch up and became neck to neck again. We were already about half way through the meadow when Jet pulled ahead again and we couldn't catch up. Jet and Zara won.

"I told you I'd win!" She said

"And I have a 6year old green horse so really I win!"

"Fine lets just say we tie"

"Ok!" I giggled

By the time we got back to the barn we were full out laughing and we couldn't stop. All of the other people at the barns kept giving us funny looks as we walked by, all of them looking at us made us laugh even harder.

We finished putting our horses away and went back inside. My mom still wasn't home but I found a note it said;

Asha,

I had some errands I need to run so don't expect me back until 5:00 or so, see you then.

I was really curious where she went, because i had no idea! I looked at the clock it was only four so me and Zara hung out in the stables until about five when I heard my mom drive up. She opened the front door and said she had a surprise for me.
