Chapter Six: Jealousy (Part Two)
The morning was sweet, and the air was full of the fragrance of flowers. But for some reason, Dawn felt uneasy.
'Is it because my mind's gone blank?' She mused, chuckling.
Ignoring the strange feeling, she slipped on a her favourite hoodie, a pink one with bubblegum-blue stripes running down the sides.
When she was done, she decided to text Gary.
'Where do I meet you?' Dawn asked.
A few seconds later, a beep as heard, 'In the cafeteria. I'll be there in about five minutes. Later :)'
She jogged to the cafeteria quickly, stuffing her hands in her pockets.
'Hey Gary!' She exclaimed when she spotted the familiar brown shade of spiky hair.
'Hey Troublesome,' Gary rolled his eyes playfully.
Dawn stopped dead in her tracks. Did he just- Troublesome?!?!
'Ah, I see the name is trending,' Dawn sighed, trying to hide her shock. Just then, was it just her, or did he sound like Paul?! He even got the 'rolling of the eyes' down pact!
Discreetly, Gary smirked. Only he saw the flicker of recognition and surprise flash on Dawn's face, even if it was for a moment.
He smiled. The plan was definitely going to work.
'Okay, let's get started,' he suggested, tearing a sheet of paper off his green notepad.
He wrote sentences and sentences of words, while Dawn on the other hand stared at her sheet of paper blankly. Her mind felt foggy and flat, instead of brimming with colourful words and thoughts. What's more, the uneasy feeling was back, and it was getting stronger.
Dawn shivered.
Gary took this as a good opportunity for stage two, 'You cold? Here.' He handed her his jacket, which she slid on. It was two sizes bigger than her own, so it slipped over her other jacket easily. It was warm, and sorta homey, but it was lacking something.
'Cinnamon,' she murmured into the thick folds.
'What was that?' Gary asked suddenly, dropping his pencil.
'Oh, nothing,' Dawn said quickly, picking up her own pencil to hide her shakiness.
She stared at the blank piece of paper before her.
'I can't do it,' she announced.
Startled, Gary looked at her, 'Do what?'
'Write the lyrics,' she sighed, burying her head in her hands. 'I mean, I don't feel inspired today. Nothing's flowing like it should, and I feel really... off. I just can't do it.'
Gary stared at her with a concerned expression, when secretly, his mind was teeming with glee. Paul was watching, he was sure. He had spotted that shade of lavender when he had entered, obscured by a bit off white wall. He was here, watching them right now, even if it was from a distance.
Gary rubbed his hands. Stage three of 'Get-Paul-To-Realise-His-Feelings-For-Dawn was about to commence.
Behind a wall, leaning against a plant-pot, a purple-haired teen watched the two intently. His mind was roaring when he saw Gary hand his jacket to Dawn. Secretly, he longed the satisfaction of seeing her wrapped in his jacket. What a fool he had been to not volunteer to help Dawn with lyrics!
Paul stared back at them, and felt his whole body go numb with horror.
Gary was caressing the side of Dawn's face, whispering things Paul hadn't the ability to hear. But he was caressing Dawn's face. His Dawn.
