Chapter Eleven: Prepping
'Dawn, are you done with the makeup yet?!'
'Leaf, did you find my hair straightener?!'
'Guys, has anyone seen my lipgloss?!'
'What the hell guys! It looks like an effing unicorn did a douche!'
May, Leaf and Dawn slowly turned around, to find Misty standing there with a frazzled expression on her face. Her eyes darted at the heap of sparkles and clutter of what was once her dorm room.
'Hehehe,' Dawn rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. 'Sorry Misty. You know how things get before a concert. Where were you, anyway?'
'Exercising my mallet on a Ketchum, that's what,' the red-head sighed, digging in her closet for her costume. After getting it out, she turned back to the group. 'I shall now prove that it takes ten minutes just to put a simple costume on, do my hair and apply some makeup.'
'Are you kidding?!' One of May's eyes twitched. 'It takes me at least an hour to do all that!'
'Then I guess I'll make history then,' Misty smirked, stalking into the bathroom to change.
Minutes later, she came back out, decked in her dress and flats, wrapping the sash around her neck.
'Where's all the makeup?' Leaf questioned suspiciously.
'Just some blush and concealer,' Misty replied breezily, fixing her headband onto her straightened-out hair.
'Are you kidding me?! You've hardly even touched your face!' Dawn screeched, pushing Misty and herself back into the bathroom.
'Dawn, let me out of here!' The two other girls heard Misty's shrieks, and secretly sympathised for the red-head. They could only imagine the horror that Dawn would put the tomboy through after she was done with her.
'Hey, Leaf?'
The brunette turned to face the girl after adjusting the strap on her pumps. 'Yeah, what's up, May?'
'Do you feel like something weird is gonna happen tonight?' May questioned, sitting cross-legged.
The other girl shrugged. 'Dunno. Why do you ask?'
May sighed. 'I don't know. I just feel strange. Like, some sixth sense telling me something might happen tonight.'
Leaf cocked her head to one side, not really understanding. She waited for the other girl to elaborate, but got a shrug instead. Suddenly, May looked up.
'What?' Leaf asked.
'Leaf, do you like Gary?'
A lump rose in her throat at the sudden enquiry. 'Like what, as a friend? If so, yeah.'
'No. I mean, do you genuinely like him? Like, I-have-a-crush-on-him like?'
'Why do you ask, May?'
May bit her lip nervously. 'Because... I think I like-'
'All done!' Suddenly, the bathroom door burst open, and Dawn sashayed out with Misty following reluctantly.
She gestured proudly to the girl. 'An improvement, no?'
Yet again, Dawn had worked her magic on the tomboy; ending her once-straight hair in flowing curls, lightly adding silver eyeshadow to accent her sparkling blue eyes and coating her lips with a glossy pale pink.
'Bravo!' May cheered, forgetting whatever she was going to say next and clapped her hands together.
'My lips feel weird,' Misty complained, puckering her her lips into a frown. Of course, she had hardly even touched lipgloss before. She probably even loathed the stuff.
