The Calm

Zuko woke up, feeling that the sun is already high (but seriously it's just 7am).

As if waking up from a dream, he rubs his eyes before looking over the other side of the bed. Katara was still there, and he was surprised that she's also awake. She's also put her clothes back on, and she looks even more beautiful because her dress perfectly matches the bed and the room.

"You still look good even while sleeping." Katara giggles.

"Okay, now that is definitely a dream." Zuko slaps both his cheeks, as if willing himself to wake up, for real.

"No, it's not, Zuko." Katara explains. "Just as you feel the power of the sun, I also feel the power brought about by the moon. The nights are shorter here, so I instantly feel it when the power wears off."

"How did you know that?" Zuko asked.

"In case you forgot, I AM a waterbender." Katara scolds him.

"No, I mean, did you just guessed that I'd wake up when I felt the sun or something."

"Well, you could say that. After all, you said water is diametrically opposite of fire." Katara said as she turns to the door.

Zuko, with his long strides, quickly caught up with Katara, and wrapped his arms around her.

"Wait... uhhh, let me just check again if this is not a dream." Zuko whispered.

"It is not, but I'd rather not talk about what happened last night, for now. At least in front of them. The time will come. I believe with all my heart that it will." Katara calmly told Zuko.

"I won't even talk about it even if we are alone. I don't... want things... to change... so much. At least not yet." Zuko said, with an assuring tone.

"I've been meaning to say this last night," Katara turns to him. "I know you've probably only dated one girl in your life and maybe she never taught you... but you don't ever pull away in a kiss if... you know... the girl is actually... kissing you, too."

"I know, I hate it. UGH!" he cried.

Giggling, Katara said "It's fine, not bad for a first time."

"How did you know?! Wait... is that a guess, too?" Zuko said, in defeat.

"You just told me." Katara said, while laughing.

Zuko cannot believe it. That same technique was used TWICE on him already.

EDIT: Thank you so much for reading this until the end.

I have decided that I will mark this story complete as my other rewrites will be a stand-alone story based on the corresponding episode.

If you want to know what happens next, please check my "The Old Masters" rewrite - I might publish it by the end of this month.
