JONAH AND CAROLINE spent their night out about in town. throughout their whole date, the seventeen year old girl was worried. a whole hour and still no text or updates from paisley.

caroline didn't want to have to worry. she hated stressing about her best friend's love life, especially on a date with her own boyfriend, but she couldn't help it. jonah sensed the unease in his girlfriend's eyes and immediately needed to know what was going on.

"everything okay?" he asks softly, rubbing his thumbs along her knuckles.

as much as caroline knew jonah was worried, she didn't want to ruin their date. the night has been perfect and the last thing she wanted was daniel and paisley to fuck it up. "i promise you, everything is okay."

jonah raises his eyebrows not believing her for a second. it wasn't hard to tell when phelps was lying because she was really bad at it - at least when it came to him. ever since they were kids, caroline could never keep anything from him.

caroline tries to look away from jonah's soft eyes, but she can't. "nothing is happening, it's all good..."

"you're out of focus tonight," roth frowns, a small hint of hurt remains in his voice, "you've barley been smiling and you haven't laughed at any of my jokes. are you not enjoying the date?"

matching his frown, caroline shakes her head. all she feels is completely guilty. but she has to tell him what's going on. "there's nothing wrong with the date babe. it's daniel and paisley..."

jonah cocks his head to the side a bit not understanding.

"they umm..."

"what?"

caroline lets out a sad sigh as the words roll off her tongue, "broke up."

shocked jonah stares at his girlfriend in disbelief. there was no way this could be true. 'daisley' was the glue of their friend group. without them there was no group. how could there be?

"how bad was it?" he asks, regaining any surprise he had before.

caroline frowns seeing a text notification from paisley popping up on her phone. "by the looks of it, really rough."

jonah frowned guilty that phelps had to deal with this- that they all would. just as everything was looking to brighten up; the one sunshine couple of the group screws it all up.

now, no one wanted to necessarily blame either daniel or paisley for the break up. caroline didn't even know the whole story yet. all she knew as of right now was that there was an argument, which led to them calling it quits.

it pained her to see paisley so upset, but until she knew the whole truth she would give daniel the benefit of the doubt. jonah was looking at his phone and based on his worried looks, caroline had guessed they were from daniel. she didn't want to press the issue further while on their date, so she decided to change the subject.

"so, what do you have planned for our next date?" she beamed a little, wanting to lighten the mood.

noticing the smile she got out of her boyfriend made the girl pleased, along with eagerness to hear his plans. she knew whatever it would be he wouldn't disappoint, as he never does.

"not quite sure, if i'm being honest. thinking maybe, netflix and chill?"

phelps smiles softly, "i like that idea."

"cool," jonah smiles, "be prepared with a list of movies to watch."

the couple smiles at one another, as their desserts come. taking a bite of her chocolate moose caroline held her boyfriend's hand across the table. it was just nice to have these moments with him.

while she still could.

she knew that march would be coming up very soon and they would have to part their ways, but she knew it wasn't forever. they would make long distance look so easy and talk almost everyday.

caroline knew that her and jonah were lucky to have one another and nothing could change that.

"can we go back to your place jo?"

"yeah baby, let me just pay first."

while jonah paid, caroline went to the restroom to make sure everything still looked good; none of her makeup smudged, hair matted, or any surprise new breakouts. luckily, everything was perfect.

adjusting a little of her mascara, caroline walked back to see jonah grinning from ear to ear at the sight of her.

"damn you are so pretty."

rolling her eyes, caroline giggles a bit, "please... you're just saying that because you're my boyfriend."

"no, i'm being serious." he smiles softly, taking her hand and they both walk out to his car.

opening the door for her side, jonah made sure caroline was all settled before walking over to the driver's seat. it was the little things that he did that made phelps know that no matter what everything would work out and they would all be okay.

even if both of their best friends were on complete opposite ends of a war with one another.

so umm hi... 🫣

it's been a hot minute since i updated!

honestly, i don't really have a reason why i haven't in awhile, i just wasn't. but i'm back! and i'm very excited to be back writing for this book! :)

i'm not sure how frequent my updates will be, but i am going to be writing again a little more regularly.

thank you all so much for the love and support on this book, while i haven't been writing! 7k reads on this book is incredibly insane and i'm so honored and proud!
