chapter 1

"Mer come on we are going to be late"
Today was her first day as an attending, and god she have been waiting for it.
"Liam come on, we need to get going" Meredith said to the sleepy child, who was staring at his half eaten breakfast.
"It's really early mommy, I want to sleep" the child cried.
"I know baby, I know, but we need to go so mommy can work, I promise that when we come back we will watch bee movie, deal?"
"Yes mommy, I love that movie" Liam opened his eyes and squealed excitedly "And can I stay at Uncles Alex office today? He promised me" he said with his big puppy eyes that Meredith couldn't say no to.
"We'll check with Uncle Alex, but as long as he is okay with it you can"
She picked up her four year old child and went rapidly to the car, where Cristina was waiting for them.

The drive was fast, she lived at her childhood house, fifteen minutes from Seattle Grace Hospital. After her mother passed away, five years ago, she inherited the house and decided to move back to Seattle to continue with her residency. Obviously, when she arrived she wasn't expecting to get pregnant, but one thing lead to an other and a one night stand ended up giving her the best thing she could ever have.
Liam was the cutest, yet smartest little boy. He was so curious and funny. Meredith sometimes felt bad about him not having a father, but she knew she was doing everything for her son, and they had a whole village to help them.

They arrived to the hospital, and Meredith and Liam went straight to Alex office, where he could play and draw all day long.
"Hi Uncle Alex!" the kid said
"Hi Mr L, how are you?"
"Tired, mommy didn't let me sleep longer" the boy pouted
"Sorry Li, we were going to be late, bye bye see you later okay? Love you" Meredith said while hugging her child and mouthed a thanks to Alex.

She was going directly to the attending's lounge to get changed, when something caught her attention.
"Have you heard? It seems Nelson is retiring and a new head of neuro will arrive today" Nurse Rose whispered to a bunch of nurses who where gossiping. A new head of Neuro? Meredith asked herself, Richard hadn't said a word about it.
"Apparently, he is coming from a private practice in New York" the nurses kept chatting about this mysterious man.

She kept wondering who could this neurosurgeon be. Arriving to the attending lounge, she got into a new pair of scrubs and went to buy a cup of coffee to start the day.

As on cue, her pager went off and she ran to the ER. Damn it, she thought, I didn't even had time to drink my coffee!
"What do we got?"
