Starflight always loved school, the learning, his few friends, the hours of getting to sit in quiet places and just relax and let his mind wander through halls of knowledge. It wasn't always the best for him though, from the very start he had been the social outcast of schools, that kid in the corner reading alone, although at his old school, there was this girl named Cricket he was good friends with, he wondered what school she went to, but didn't dwell on it too much, although it would be a fun friend reunion to catch up, they were both truth seekers after all. Once he had finally built up the courage to join his current friend group, he thought life was the greatest thing, he had friends, knowledge, all he could ever want, even a girlfriend! Until the day of the incident, where he had several burn marks permanently left across his pale face, damaging his eyes. That was when everything changed.

Even if he hung out with some of the most popular kids at school, everyone started ignoring him, or calling him names and picking on him any chance they had. Not to mention how his girlfriend at the time, Fatespeaker's, first order of business was breaking up with him. No sorry, no goodbye, no comforting for his scars, just one text the day he got his glasses saying;

"We are over."

Starflight remembered that day very vividly, Fatespeaker had once been so kind, but fame changed her. The day she broke up with him, he didn't leave his room for a week, crying himself to sleep, only eating and drinking whatever food he had stockpiled from anxiety of getting trapped or there being some kind of apocalypse, which was mostly dried fruit chips and stale crackers, an eternal reminder to never let Clay see the apocalypse stash unless there is a genuine apocalypse.

But when high school started, he didn't expect any change, but there was, new students who didn't treat him like a freak, for once he didn't feel like a freak. Not to mention how he had almost every class with all of his friends, except study hall, which had just started.

Starflight sat alone at a table towards the back of the library, flipping through his history textbook and quickly copying down any fact that was important. Quick, light footsteps entered the room but he didn't bother looking up until someone was right next to him, he staggered back and out of his chair and fell onto the ground.

"Hi Star- oops!" It was Sunny.

"What's she doing here? Doesn't she have community service?" His mind buzzed but he just got up with her help. "Thanks, don't you have community service though?"

"Nah, it got cancelled last minute." Sunny sighed "Kind of a bummer, but now we get to spend another class together!"

"Y-Yeah!" Starflight fought away his faint blush and gave an awkward smile, he didn't really smile very much anymore.

"Anyways, whatchya up to?" She peeked down at his work, pushing her blond hair out of the way.

"Oh, just uh... finishing up some notes..." He muttered awkwardly.

She tilted her head at him "But you always finish your notes in class, is something wrong?"

"No! No, sorry, nope, nothings wrong! Just been..." he thinks for a moment "Daydreaming, is all."

"Hm, think you could tell me what the dreams were about?" She gave him a kind smile that quickly faded into concern. "Wait, is that too personal?"

"Don't tell her you think about her! Don't tell her you think about her! Don't tell her you think about her! Don't tell her you think about her!" He quickly tried to think of a lie "Uh, the- uh... the... the b-books."

Sunny stifled a laugh "Come on Starflight, really? You can tell me stuff."

Starflight let out a small sigh "Ok, you know Meerkat?"

Sunny gave him a confused expression "Yeah? He's in community service, he's a nice guy."

"W-Well he keeps glaring at me in the halls, and sometimes I end up worrying he's gonna do something bad..."

Sunny frowned a bit "I don't think he'd do that... but I'll keep an eye out if it makes you comfortable." She lightly rested one of her hands on Starflight's. "Don't worry about it, you survived your sister, even if Meerkat is a jerk, I doubt he could even come close."

Starflight chuckled slightly "I don't know whether that last part is relieving or more worrying..."

"Well, I'll still make sure nobody hurts you, I mean, someone's gotta do it, right?"

"W-Well, no... I don't think I'm really worth protecting."

Sunny let out an offended gasp "Don't say that about yourself! Come on, lets wrap up this homework then we can go have lunch outside with the gang, maybe chat about this Meerkat situation."

Starflight smiled "Thanks... that sounds nice..."
