Your POV

Slamming the car door shut, you glanced around at your surroundings. This was the address Tommy had told you to meet him at. The only thing in sight was a small building, if you could even call it that. It was more of a shack surrounded by a bunch of pine trees.

"Captain Bob's Boat Tours" read a dilapidated sign hanging from the top of the shack. It didn't seem the nicest, to be honest, but you were sure you had the right place since Big Russ had described it as "rustic".

You heard another car pull up, so you turned away from the shack. There was Tommy, getting out of the car a few feet away from you. He waved to you frantically, as if he thought you didn't see him for some reason.

"Helloooooo y/n," Tommy said as he ran up to you and gave you a hug.

You accepted his embrace, but recoiled as you were met with the overpowering smell of....was that Lynx Africa?

"Hi Tommy," you pulled away, coughing. "Please tell me why you smell like you walked through a body spray commercial."

"It's to attract the hot women, there's got to be loads of them around here," Tommy smirked.

Even though it was just a joke, the words stung. All his viewers thought it was hilarious when Tommy talked about women, but you secretly resented when he did because it made you jealous. Jealous of what? You weren't sure. He probably didn't even like you back, and yet you were still jealous of him talking about some nonexistent women.

You tried to shake away the negative feelings and noticed Big Russ, who was getting out of the car from the driver's seat. He was holding a camera and somehow already looked tired. Considering that he had been driving with Tommy, maybe he did have a good reason to look half asleep.

"Hi Russ," you said, greeting the man who would be filming most of your adventure.

"Hi y/n," Russ replied. "You excited for today?"

"Definitely," you said, forcing yourself to smile. And it was true, you were excited. But you were also super anxious. A little bit anxious about the canoeing itself but even more so about Tommy...

You, Tommy, and Russ walked over to the shack that Russ referred to as "the business office". Russ went inside and came back out shortly afterwards, with another man, who would be leading your trip down the river. The canoe attendant led you down a dirt path to the area where the canoes were kept. Russ started filming as the attendant gave you and Tommy life jackets and paddles. Tommy complained about the life jacket being too tight and the attendant warned him to keep it on the whole time you were in the boat. The attendant took you over to the actual canoes, where you caught the first glimpse of the boat you would be riding in.

The canoe did not look that impressive at all. In fact, it looked a bit run down and definitely old. The paint was peeling and there were cobwebs in between the seats. You really hoped it wouldn't leak.

"You reckon this is safe?" Tommy was bold enough to ask the attendant the question you had all been wondering.

"Safe enough," the man drawled back. For some reason, that response didn't help you feel too much better.

"So, are you Captain Bob?" Tommy asked the attendant.

"No," the man replied. An awkward silence followed.

The attendant pushed the boat into the edge of the water, and Tommy climbed in first. He sat down in the front and you were behind him. The attendant pushed the boat more and more into the water, until you were floating at the beginning of the river.
