A/N: I'm sorry for not updating! I suffered from a case of burnout and an injured back. I'm all good now, so expect this book to be finished soon!
"So, Y/n, what do you like doing in your spare time?" the man questioned, a sharp grin making its way onto his face. He took a long gulp of his glass of champagne, peering at you with a curious, yet malicious gleam in his eyes. "After all, if you and your... friend are going to join the league, then I'd like to get to know you more."
"Anything that catches my interest," you answered, sparing a glance towards Himiko, who was glaring daggers at Suzuki's head. "And," you gestured towards Himiko, gently grasping her hand. "She's not my 'friend', more like my girlfriend."
He laughed and stood up. "I remember what it was like to be young," he said, gesturing for the two of you to follow him through the crowd of overly-rich and over-famous pro-heroes and business associates. You hid your disgust by smiling and nodding, grasping Himiko's hand like it was a life-line. "Anyway," he continued, turning to the both of you with a charismatic grin. "Let's go, shall we?"
"Where, exactly?" Himiko questioned.
"The base, of course," he replied, gesturing for the both of you to follow him as he continued his way out of the hotel and into the limosine, which was drove by a tall, bulky man, who was dressed in a deep violet suit. "It'd be rude of me not to introduce you to the rest of the gang, correct?"
You bit your lip and hesitantly followed, opening the door for Himiko and giving her a re-assuring look.
"Thanks," she said, briskly leaning in to press a small kiss to your lips. You nodded and got in after her, hesitantly shutting the door.
Himiko shot you a concerned glance, looking at your hand once more before taking it.
"I'm surprised," Suzuki chimed. "I didn't take two villains for the romantic type."
"Yeah," you replied. "But I heard it's not too uncommon."
He hummed in agreement and stared out the window, casually glancing at the two of you occaisonally. Soon enough, he had found himself in a conversation with the driver, who, of course, was tense.
Himiko placed her head on your shoulder, her eyes fluttering closed and a light sigh escaping her lips.
"How did you meet?" Suzuki inquired, leaning the side of his head against the palm of his hand. "It must've been quite the adventure if two villains got together."
"Well," you replied. "It's not much of a story."
Himiko hummed in agreement and continued to grasp your hand, tightening her grip around it as a way to signal re-assurance. She was aware of how your heart-rate was continuing to accelerate the closer the car got closer to the location. And she was also aware of how you stole glances at the man, trying to decipher his body language and expressions, as if they were a puzzle.
"Do tell me about it," he continued. "It's a long drive there, after all."
"I'd rather not." you replied, your tone laced with both annoyance and exhaustion. Socializing had never been one of your cups of tea, and not to mention how you were sitting in a car with a dangerous man.
Still, it would be fun to mess with him.
"Why do you want to know? Got a partner of your own or something?" you questioned, smiling to yourself when you heard a small chuckle leave Himiko's lips.
"Personally, I don't enjoy being in relationships, so, no," he replied, resting his cheek against his palm. "And to answer your first question, I was just trying to make conversation. I consider myself an extroverted guy."
"Oh," you replied. "Fun."
He chuckled. "You're introverted, aren't you?"
"I consider myself an ambrivert, actually."
The car had come to a halt. Within moments of getting in the car and arriving at the destination—an abandoned warehouse (cliche)—it was a flash as you, Himiko, and Suzuki entered. It didn't help how Suzuki casually killed the driver with a bullet in the back of the head at point-blank-range.
The warehouse was cold and damp, with numerous other dangerous villains awaiting his arrival. Some were anxious and eager to leave, while others were gleeful or indifferent to their surroundings.
"This is a nice place you got here!" Himiko chirped, removing herself from under your arm and towards the other villains. You said nothing as she did so, as you would be there to bail her out of any trouble if it was necessary. "It's a lot less decorated than our place, though!"
And so she casually threw a blade at the wall, giggling as she witnessed it going into it. A few of the other villains shivered, while others laughed and cheered her on.
You gripped the blade that was hidden in the sleeve of your suit, something that was courtesy of your lovely girlfriend.
"You seem tense," Suzuki claimed, patting you on the back before you moved away.
"Touch me again and I'll make sure you join that blade." you threatened. Of course, nobody took it seriously as the room erupted with laughter.
"So," another villain questioned. "Are any of you single...?"
"Ew." Himiko replied, briskly shutting him up as she reached into the bag she carried and pulled out her phone, the light of the screen illuminating her flawless features. A chaotic and euphoric grin lined her lips as she scanned the screen.
She then turned to you. "Hey, Y/n, can we talk outside for a moment?"
"Uh...sure?"
You followed her outside and basked in the fresh air and moonlight. "So, what is it?"
She giggled and gripped your hand, leading you a few hundred yards away from the abandoned warehouse.
"Now, we wait."
