Trigger warnings; none

"So do you get off at the same time as me" Sage asked as she and Mae cleaned up the tables of the empty café, "I actually have to take a rain check on that Felix visit, my mom came into town" Mae informed with a frown. "I thought you wouldn't miss it for the world" Sage joked but quickly halted her laugh as she heard the familiar ring of the bell indicate that someone had come inside. Sage looked over and a smile immediately took over her face as she saw the man from yesterday walking inside, she turned to Mae who had also noticed the boy and made sure to tell her that she could take his order. Sage walked back to the counter where Wilbur stood and looked up at him "what can I get for you today Wilbur" she asked and he smiled softly at the fact that she remembered his name. "Same thing as yesterday if you don't mind" he asked politely and Sage just nodded in return and took out a cup and wrote his name on it "I'll have that out to you in a minute".

Sage turned around to see Mae smirking from over by the coffee machine, Sage walked over and gave her a small nod that was supposed to tell her that she had no interest in Wilbur but instead Mae continued to ask questions. "Mae, we both know I'm not ready for that type of stuff" Sage whisper-yelled at the girl who stood next to her, trying her best to make sure Wilbur couldn't hear from across the room. "Ok, ok. But when he asks for your number all I'm saying is that you should give it to him" Mae shrugged before walking off and continued to clean tables.

Sage finished the coffee and walked it over to his table, something she didn't do very often but she decided that it wouldn't take too much time, "here you go Wilbur" she said with a smile and was about to walk away before he grabbed her hand to stop her. She smiled at the contact before turning back around to look at him, "you can call me will and, uhm, I'm sorry if this is weird or if this makes you uncomfortable but do you think I could get your number" He asked with an awkward smile and Sage just nodded, she was a lot less hesitant than she accepted but it's not like he would end up texting her anyway so what harm could it do. She handed her phone with the contacts app open, letting him type in his number. When sage received her phone back she saw that he had only typed his number, leaving the space for his name open for her customization. Sage smiled softly before typing out "will <3" and then slipped her phone into her pocket. "Well, I'll text you later tonight once I'm off work" she told the boy as he stood up from his spot immediately reminding her just how tall he was, "and I'll be looking forward to it".

Sage walked home from the café that night with a smile wide across her face awaiting the text she would soon send to Wilbur. For the last few hours of her shift she contemplated what exactly she would say. Was it too forward to say more than just a simple 'hello' or was that normal? After a while and some talking with Mae she decided she would text a simple "hey, it's Sage" at first so that he would first know who was texting him and then she would ask how his day was. It was simple enough and ultimately she was a little angry she hadn't come up with it on her own. Sage walked into her apartment, greeting her cat, Felix by dropping her things and scooping him into her arms. "How was my little baby's day?" she asked her cat, giving him scratches on the head before setting him down on the floor and picking up her things and bringing them to her room. Sage sighed as she looked down at her bed where she had thrown her phone, she needed to text Wilbur now. She wasn't dreading it because she didn't want to do it but because she feared it would be awkward. What happens when she's not as interesting as he hoped and she bores the poor boy to death? What if they have such little common interests that he stops talking to the girl and even finds a different coffee shop.

Sage hasn't had much luck with boys in the year her and her last boyfriend have been apart. She is awful at showing people that she cares for them and as a result she has lost many opportunities at new friendships and even relationships. She could tell that a small part of her was growing an affection for Wilbur and whether this was friendly or romantic she couldn't tell. Sage was worried that if she and Will developed a friendship that she would never be able to show him that she cared about him and eventually they would end up like all her other friendships, gone and dead all because she couldn't do her part. She was worried their relationship, platonic or not, would be one sided due to her own personal struggles. She worried about far too many things to be a good friend to this boy and she knew he had other people, enough people that he wouldn't even notice if the girl didn't text him. So, Sage didn't text him that night.
