Trigger warnings; none
"Sage you can't do this shit" Mae told her friend as she stood in her apartment. Sage had been ignoring messages, well not exactly. She had forgotten to plug in her phone last night so when her friend was texting her this morning asking to come over, she hadn't received the messages. Mae got worried and went over to Sage's apartment, arriving and using her key to let herself in and found her friend sound asleep in her bed. "It was an accident Mae" Sage said, covering her head with her pillow. Mae scooped up the cat that sat by Sage's feet and sat down in bed next to her friend. "It's alright just don't do it again" Mae said causing the two girls to laugh, "so what happened when you texted that guy last night".
Sage laughed to herself uncovering her face to see her friend sitting with her cat "I didn't" she answered simply, making Mae's mouth open wide. "What do you mean you didn't" Mae practically yelled, scaring the cat that was in her arms into running across the bed to his owner, "Mae, calm". "I didn't text him because he has other friends. He doesn't need a girl who's going to give him a one sided friendship with an ,at most, two month expiration date" Sage explained petting the cat that now was now laid on her chest "Sage, come on. You can't keep pushing everyone away". "I can push people away as long as I want. '' Sage argued back and her friend just shook her head "Sage, I love you more than anything but you can't let that little bitch that you called a boyfriend ruin everything for you. It's okay to be hesitant and nervous, probably even scared, but you can't let him take your life away from you". As much as Sage wanted to deny it, her friend was more than right. She couldn't let Roman ruin her possibilities at new beginnings especially when it's more than likely that nothing more than a friendship would come from it.
"I guess you can be right sometimes" Sage laughed to her friend as she reached over to her bedside table grabbing her phone that her friend had plugged in for her when she arrived. Sage looked at the time, 12pm. Will was bound to be awake by now right? Sage sighed, unlocking her phone and opening the premade contact that was practically yelling at her to text. "You know even if i wanted to do this i think i'd still be panicking," Sage told her friend who was now watching her every move, "it's a simple text, I promise you, nothing will go wrong" Mae reassured her. Sage turned back to her phone, typing out the message she had planned to send last night before quickly turning her phone off and setting it next to her, face down in hopes that she had gotten the wrong number and she wouldn't receive a message back. After about five minutes of the two sitting in silence while Sage practically died from panic she felt her phone vibrate next to her. Mae picked it up knowing that Sage wouldn't want to look at it first and read the message out loud "he said, "hey sage, how are you doing" kinda boring if you ask me" Mae told her friend with a laugh, passing the phone to her before getting up out of the bed "wait where are you going, I can't talk to him on my own". Mae laughed obnoxiously at her friend and shook her head "I'm not gonna be around when he texts you later will i? You'll be fine Sage, I promise"
Mae continued with her path, walking out of the bedroom into the main space of her friend's apartment to do something Sage was unsure of. Sage sighed, looking down at the phone in her hands, tapping the dimly lit screen so it now illuminated her face. She couldn't answer his question honestly, could she? Maybe if she wrote it in a way that didn't seem weird "well i'm just a little nervous, what about you" she thought out loud immediately cringing at the honesty and trying to find some small white lie she could use instead. "I'm doing good, just woke up though. What about you" was what the girl finally decided on, not too honest but not a lie either. Sage smiled softly to herself as she almost immediately received a response, maybe having friends isn't so bad.
