A dimly lit room, with the windows hidden by curtains. A large table was in the middle of it, with exactly six chairs. Albedo didn’t even remember the narrow back alleys that Kaeya used to lead him and Dainsleif here.
He was sitting at Kaeya's left, while Dainsleif at his right. In front of them stood a beautiful woman with light blonde hair, with a black mask hiding one of her eyes, and a male with indigo hair and eyes of the same color, who had a youthful appearance.
Kaeya seemed quite relaxed, but Albedo couldn’t help but fear the people in front of him. They looked a certain kind of way that made his brain scream “Run!” whenever he happened to lock eyes with them.
“Shall we begin?” Kaeya said, leaning on the table with his hands together, fingers interlocked.
The gesture reminded Albedo of the time the man came demanding to see his laboratory.
No one said a single word, so Kaeya took this as a sign to continue:
“I think you already know me, Kaeya Alberich, so these two are Albedo and Dainsleif, my helpers, you could say.” the man with blue hair said with a pleasant smile.
It was the type of smile merchants used to sell their goods, but Albedo could see a dark gleam in his eye as he spoke. He could tell that he was watching closely every move the two people made. He could tell that Kaeya wanted to find out as much as possible about the woman and the man.
After all, who didn’t?
“I’m La Signora.” the woman finally spoke.
Kaeya nodded, then turned his gaze over to the male next to La Signora.
“I’m Scaramouche.” he said simply.
"Now that we got over the introductions, I want to say that I feel truly honored to be in the presence of two of the most powerful Fatui Harbingers." Kaeya said, making Albedo turn his head around when he heard the words.
The blonde male didn't say anything and instead looked at Dainsleif.
He had a blank expression. There wasn’t fear nor curiosity in his eyes. No one could tell what Dainsleif was thinking. It was like he was a statue, with his face frozen like that, with eyes of glass, made to gaze into one’s soul, but impossible to see what thoughts lie behind them.
Albedo turned his gaze back on the two people in front of him.
"Let's get down to business already." Scaramouche said.
The blonde male wasn’t sure if he saw a smirk at the corner of Kaeya’s lips for a split second, or if that was just his imagination.
“Very well.” Kaeya said, leaning back on his chair. “I don’t know who was the person that got my letter, but I assume you know the reason I sent it?”
La Signora nodded, while Scaramouche kept watching Kaeya closely.
“Good. So what are the requirements for me to join the Fatui, and become a Harbinger?"
Albedo's eyes widened when he heard the calmness of Kaeya's voice. Did he want to become a Harbinger? What did he think he would achieve by joining the Fatui?
La Signora put a white envelope on the table and pushed it forward with two gloved fingers.
“In here you’ll find every information you need.” she said, then got up.
Scaramouche followed, then said:
“Don’t overestimate yourself, Mond folk.”
Kaeya smirked.
“I would never.”
After the Harbingers took their leave, silence engulfed the room where Kaeya, Albedo, and Dainsleif still sat down at the wooden table. They were all staring at the pure-white envelope left by La Signora until Kaeya reached a hand forward and took it.
“My Lord, you never told me that you wanted to join the Fatui.” Dainsleif said looking at Kaeya.
The man waited a few seconds, and when he saw that Albedo wasn’t going to say anything, he asked:
“Albedo? Not making your usual remarks?”
Albedo huffed. " No. I have come to the conclusion that it's not worth spending my energy on that." he said looking at the envelope in Kaeya's hand.
The man ripped the fragile paper with ease and found the things the envelope was hiding: a map and a letter. Kaeya unfolded the map and discovered that it was in fact a map of Mondstadt.
"Well, well, well, I knew I shouldn't underestimate the Fatui, but I wasn't expecting this. It has all the entrances and the places where the walls of the city are most weak. Too bad I know all this already." he sighed and left the map on the table, and started reading the letter.
To Albedo's surprise, Dainsleif grabbed Mondstadt's map, and examined it closely, without saying a word. What was he thinking?
"My Lord, may I ask what are the contents of the letter?" Dainsleif said, putting the map down on the table, and locking eyes with Albedo for a brief moment before looking at Kaeya.
The man put the letter on the table, then kept gazing at it, seemingly deep in thought.
"It says that I need to destroy or take control over Mondstadt to prove that I'm worthy of joining them." Kaeya said calmly, even though his right hand was clenched in a fist.
"Is something wrong?" Dainsleif said.
Kaeya turned around and glared at him while slamming the table.
"Of course there is!" he yelled, startling Albedo. "These bastards..." Kaeya said looking back at the paper in front of him.
Albedo could see the anger in his single eye, anger that was written all over his face.
"They don't actually believe that I'm going to succeed, and even said that I should stop dreaming." the man said.
He took the letter in his hand and crumpled it, then threw it at the wall.
"Now I also need to rule a city..." Kaeya raised up from his chair and slammed the table again.
He walked around it, until he was near one of the windows then moved the curtain away just enough so he was the only one who could see what was outside.
"How many things do I need to do until we can finally meet again, Diluc?" he whispered, gazing at the blue sky outside.
