One thing Diluc learned about Kaeya in all those years was that he was unpredictable. You could never read his true intentions, or know what he was really thinking. He could be crying, then the next second seducing someone at the tavern for information.
It wasn’t only a handful of times Diluc snapped at him for this behaviour. He didn’t know why he felt so angry when he saw Kaeya always hiding behind a smile. To other people, maybe his whole act looked genuine, all of it being a lie representing an inconceivable fact.
Of course, Diluc was once convinced too that Kaeya was someone with a good heart, willing to sacrifice himself for Mondstadt and it’s people and that the handful of times his true nature revealed itself was the work of the monster sealed within him.
But there was no monster and no Kaeya from the past. Everytime someone annoyed him, he had a certain look in his eyes, a certain expression that he didn’t bother to hide anymore. He looked dangerous, and it reminded Diluc of the night they fought to death.

He looked up from his plate. Kaeya was sitting in front of him, eating slowly, and Diluc took the time to study his features. He looked the same as yesterday, as two days ago and as three years ago. His eye, his hair, his…
“You’re finally looking at me without hate in your eyes.” Kaeya stated, bringing him back to reality.
Diluc quickly averted his eyes, looking at his plate again. Moments passed by in silence before Kaeya said:
“I think that Harbinger will want to see the city and I'll have to go with him.”
Diluc looked at him.
“What does that have to do with me?” he asked.
“I can’t leave you here alone. I can’t be sure you’ll be safe.” Kaeya answered.
He was truly unpredictable.
“It doesn’t matter what happens to me.” Diluc said.
“I know you won’t believe me, but I’m doing this for you.” Kaeya said, his voice sounding just a little desperate. “If I can get my hands on a Delusion and take the cursed sword from the Fatui’s grasp I could challenge the Archons. Just think–”
“Challenge the Archons?” Diluc interrupted. “They are Gods, Kaeya. They can literally shape mountains and seas, and you want to fight them?”
That sentence Kaeya just spoke sounded like something a child would say. Did he go insane when years passed?
"Now's not the time for this, just… Come with me and that Harbinger to Mondstadt." Kaeya requested again. "I don't want to fight with you." he added when he saw Diluc still hesitating.
The red-head let go of the fork in his hand, his brows furrowing with annoyance.
"You are just afraid I'll run away, aren't you?" he asked, then silence followed.
If he didn't go with Kaeya, the man would surely force him to go. Diluc needed to play nice, do what Kaeya asked him to until he could get his Vision back, then…
Maybe he could escape.
"Fine, I'll come with you." the red-head sighed as he was getting up to leave.
"Where are you going?" Kaeya asked.
Diluc looked over his shoulder.
"I'm just curious about something." he answered.

It would be a lie for Diluc to say that he wasn't afraid of Dainsleif, even if just for a little. When he first met the man, in the ruins of Mondstadt, he was surprised by his power and agility. That time, Diluc didn't even have time to fight back before he was captured.
So it didn't make any sense for him to knock at his door now.
After a few moments of silence, Dainsleif slightly opened the door. Diluc could see only half of his face, but the man seemed to be exhausted.
"What do you want?" Dainsleif asked.
He sounded annoyed. It certainly wasn't the best time for Diluc to be searching for answers.
"I know you probably don't want to talk about this, but…" the red-head began, trying not to seem nosy. "Could you tell me about Kaeya's power?"
"I can't." Dainsleif said without hesitation.
The red-head knew it was going to be hard to find some answers, but Dainsleif's expression and way of speaking seemed to make it impossible."May I ask why…?" Diluc said, still trying to convince the man to answer.
"Ask His Highness yourself if you're that curious, and don't bother me again." Dainsleif almost growled, his brows furrowed with anger. "Maybe you think we have a common interest, as His Highness killed you once and did this to me, but I assure you it's not the case. I will not help you in any way as long as you just want to escape or harm His Highness."
And with that, Dainsleif shut the door in his face.

Dainsleif's behaviour didn't anger him at all, as he expected such a reaction. Instead, the fact he called Kaeya "His Highness" intrigued Diluc.
He knew Kaeya was a Khaenri'an, how could he not? The man himself told Diluc of his past, his destroyed nation, all while crying and apologizing for his lies. The red-head comforted him, and kept it a secret, even from his father, who was still alive at the time.
He noticed the strange, yet beautiful shape of Kaeya's pupils, and Diluc was sure that Dainsleif was from the same nation fallen five hundred years ago.
It made sense that they were together now, as Kaeya seemed to be searching his whole life for someone with the same blood as him flowing through their veins.
Then why did Kaeya and Dainsleif behave like that to each other? Diluc couldn't ask outloud, as no one was able to answer.
"Can we sleep together tonight?" he asked Kaeya instead, his voice no more than a whisper in the silent dark room.
He couldn't quite distinguish the man's features due to the lack of light, but he could guess he was surprised.
"If you want..."
