Many of might have heard of the term, many might have not. Though the word is not common, a huge population in this world, has dyslexia.

Globally, Dyslexia International (2017) suggests that between 5-10% of the population experience dyslexia, which equates to around 700 million people worldwide.

Now what is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling. It's a specific learning difficulty, which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing.

It is linked to genes, which is why the condition often runs in families. You're more likely to have dyslexia if your parents, siblings, or other family members have it. But often, dyslexia is linked to autism; which is not true. Autism is a developmental disorder where the brain processes sound and colors in a manner different from an average brain, whereas dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty interpreting words, pronunciations, and spellings.

Children who are dyslexic are often ignored in school. They are often termed by fellow peers as stupid or dumb. Even teachers and parents, just assume that the child is just not capable of studying. This can be stressful for the child.

Dyslexic students, have a different way of studying. They often study through games and such which are more engaging and descriptive. Like forming words, using the sounds of letters. Their trouble in studies, often leads to bullying.

Now a days, there is  a surge in dyslexic cases. But it is not because it suddenly became common, but because it is being recognized. The lack of awareness about dyslexia, and the lack of a dyslexia department in school, led to students with the condition being ignored. Now, there is awareness, special education departments, and many doctors, counsellors, and other people, to help these students.

Dyslexia also depends on each person. So the symptoms might be different in each. Some could read a bit faster than the others. What we can do, is to support them. Help them when they need it. When you help them, and they succeed, it's a new type of happiness.

So help others, who need it; whether they are dyslexic or not. Whether they are sick or stuck. Whether they are young or old. Because even the smallest of help, can make a huge difference.
