*third-person POV *

As the waves crashed down on the shoreline and the two strangers sat feet apart they stole glances.

Chase's eyes wandered over to the mystery girl once and a while and he took in her beauty, the way her lips were plump but not in a fake way. The way she had beautiful curves but he thought that she would probably think she wasn't skinny enough. She was tall he could tell probably 5'7 with medium brown hair but it was streaked with blonde from the sun, golden blonde like a perfectly cooked marshmallow. Like he thought before she was beautiful. Like he thinks how. Like how he believes that she believes she will never be enough. He knows it because.

He feels it too, the inability to be good enough.

Nova was also stealing glances, she was getting her first looks at the stranger she had met minutes ago. He had dark chocolate curls but they had streaks of honey blonde through them, the beauty made them look deep and full, she could most definitely imagine running her hands through. A chiseled jawline was what she saw next and how tanned his skin was, he was tall as well she thought just by the way he sat around 6'2-6'4. He was a guy that was gorgeous, and she hadn't even seen what was under his tight t-shirt yet.

"So why are you here," he asked hesitantly, and then added, "if you don't mind me asking."

"Yeah, no I get it when a random girl shows up to the beach you at, at 2:30 in the morning it's weird" she quipped back.

"I mean yeah it kind of is," he chuckled in response "so why are you here what's your story?"

"So are we sharing life stories?" She questioned.

"Yes, we won't say our names just why we came to the beach at 2:30 well last guess it's 3 now," he says checking his phone. He had a gentle smirk pulling on his cheeks and it made him look even more dashing. They were both terrified of the other would run, they were only in the shallows and it was already getting hard to breathe.

"Okay I guess I just needed to get away, away from the dorms, the hot swirling thoughts that take place inside them, It was too much to be there with all these loud swirling thoughts going through my head" she huffed our looking down, she was playing with the ring on her thumb and he could guess it was a scene of being anxious. Chase turned his whole body to face her and that's when he saw her legs, there were little crescent shapes on her calf's and thighs. Scratch marks ran side to side and up and down, some were only red but others were slightly bloody. They were fresh and dark, they clearly were from near minutes ago. He could tell when someone had a rough night, he had them frequently.

"That Makes sense, wanting to get away from your thoughts. The beach is the only place my mind has a quiet moment" He responded to her previous statement but was working up the courage to ask about her legs. Chase knew the answer but was still terrified to confirm this beautiful, tan, sunlight girl who looked like she could be that happy friend. The one that is always smiling but Chase knew that behind many beautiful smiles, there are shattered pieces of a part of someone that can't be healed.

"Moon girl?"

Nova hummed in response to him, when he spoke next she turned to look at him and was caught off guard by his facial features, it was the eyes. They were what shocked her, his bright crystal blue eye with gold speckles reflecting the light of the moon while the other eye was emerald green with golden crystal shards. She had not once in her entire life seen eyes this deep and powerful as the ones she stared into, Nova was getting lost in his soul. The depth it contained and it was only seeing the pain and brokenness through his eyes.

But when someone is broken it doesn't be there weak, she knows that because she is so fucking broken. However, Nova knows that if she were weak she would be dead right now; but she doesn't know how long she can hold up the act of not being broken and weak.

Nova was so transfixed by his eyes she didn't even register what he said. But when he asked again she turned and looked away. Not only embarrassed again but unsure of how to answer it. Lie or..... be honest to one person in her life.

"What happened to your legs miss moon?" The nickname was cute but she was still unsure how to answer.

"Boyfriend get carried away?" He asked with a slight smirk on his face. She wasn't sure how to answer that either, Nova was out of control and was starting to feel the familiar feeling of panic creeping up her throat. She didn't even notice she was shaking till she felt gentle hands on her arms.

"Hey, hey? It's okay you don't have to answer it just looked like you either had a very fun night or a very bad one?" He commented trying to relax her.

Chase could also feel the lump rising in his throat, shit, he didn't mean to scare her. What the fuck is wrong with you? You can't mind your own fucking business like a normal person.

But then again he's not normal.

"N- No. No it was bad" she stuttered out, she was breathing again fast still and now he was sitting right next to her, their legs touching. One of his hands had subconsciously intertwined itself with hers and his thumb subconsciously rubbed over the smooth skin on top, the skin that came in contact with his lit up with sparks. Nova wondered if he was also getting the feeling. Like fireworks landing.

Chase most definitely was, he was now addicted to the way their skin was little up when it touched. It had been seconds of touch and they were addicted. Like a drug.

"If you want to tell me....you can but you do not need to" he stated matter a factly.

"It was about an hour ago, in my room, hot, and too many thoughts were there, ya know?"

That's when she looked up at him and that's when HE noticed the deep chocolate eyes that were disrupted by blue swirls. Nova had two eye colors in one eye, just like Chase.

"Yeah I know" chase replied. Quietly looking to the off to the horizon for a moment and then back to the beauty in front of him.

"And I wanted to think about anything else so...." She put one of her hands down in the crescent marks and fit her natural nails into them. Chase picked up her hand quickly and took it away, but didn't let go. He knows that feeling, maybe he has other ways of coping but he knows all too damn well.

"It just made the thoughts slow and I mean that was the concern in the first place, that the skin wasn't perfect." She admitted, Nova wasn't sure why she was admitting this to a random guy, or why she let him continue to hold her hand but she did know that ever word was as crystal clear as the moonlight above.
