He noticed how she blushes from time to time whenever she was around him. Initially, he thought that she likes him back. However, when he saw how she blushes around others as well, it instantly crushed his hope into tiny bits.
His hope was crushed even further even he saw her blush into a deeper shade whenever she was around Matsukawa. To make it even worse, he saw how Matsukawa ruffle her hair or even lean onto her freely. It made them look like a couple from afar.
They deny that they were dating, but jealousy inside him continued to grow larger. He felt jealous of their relationship. He may be close to her as well, but he still can't make any physical contact with her. He even remembers how Matsukawa smirks his way whenever he was with her, adding up to his jealousy.
Also, whatever Matsukawa says to her, makes her cheeks turn rosy pink as she gets shy and cover her face. Whenever she does this, Matsukawa will give her a teasing smile before ruffling her hair as he tells her something. Whatever it was, it managed to bring a smile to her face with a hopeful look.

"Are you sure you are not dating Nakamura?" Hanamaki asked.
Matsukawa smirked at his question. "Is someone jealous?"
"Just answer my question," Hanamaki said as he bit the bottom of his lips.
Matsukawa chuckled as if he was having fun before replying to him. "Don't worry, we aren't dating. Do you really think I am that much of an asshole to date the person my friend likes?"
He felt some kind of relief filling up his body at Matsukawa's words. However, that did not last long as his mood instantly dropped. Just because they weren't dating does not mean she likes him back. There was a possibility of her hiding her feelings for Matsukawa.
Hanamaki frowned slightly as he ruffled his hair.
"We really aren't dating," Matsukawa told him once again, trying to reassure him.
"I heard you the first time," he sighed as he headed back to the court.
Matsukawa quickly followed after him in silence, not knowing what made his friend's mood drop even further.
