I dragged myself toward my locker as soon as I got to school. It was only seven in the morning, and I was running on barely any sleep, thanks to the game I’d stayed up way too late playing last night.
I stifled a yawn as I twisted the lock. My eyebags were probably screaming for help, but whatever. I’m a nobody here anyway.
No friends. No conversations. No one bothers to approach me, and honestly, I like it that way. Alone doesn’t mean lonely. Alone feels safe. Comfortable.
But when I swung my locker door open, I froze. There it was again, a small slip of paper tucked neatly inside. Another note.
I picked up the note and read the message. GOOD MORNING. I sighed. Same thing, every morning. I tucked it in with the rest of the notes I’d been collecting.
Grabbing my things, I shut my locker and headed to class.
I was busy with my PSP when the noise outside caught my attention, fangirls screaming a name. Kuroo. Moments later, a group of boys walked in, and the shrieks grew even louder.
So annoying.
It was the members of Nekoma’s volleyball club, heading to their seats. My eyes drifted to one person in particular—Kuroo Tetsurou.
A campus heartthrob. Captain of the volleyball club. Famous enough that his fangirls followed him everywhere. I never understood why he seemed to enjoy it. It was irritating, really.
Still… I had to admit, I was secretly one of those admirers. I was attracted to him, just a little. Not that it mattered; I was sure he didn’t even know I existed. He was the Kuroo, and I was just the typical campus nerd.
Classes ended, boring as usual. I hurried to my locker, eager to get home and keep playing my new game.
Another note.
TAKE CARE ON YOUR WAY HOME.
The prankster was at it again. With an irritated huff, I crumpled the paper and tossed it into the nearest trash can.
The next morning was no different. Same routine, same expectations. I opened my locker, already assuming I’d see the usual GOOD MORNING. But my brows furrowed when I read the message: MEET ME AT THE ROOFTOP AFTER CLASS. I’LL BE WAITING.
So, the prank will finally come to an end, huh? It never even crossed my mind to find out who had been sending me these notes. I figured one day they’d just stop… and maybe today was that day.
Classes ended, and as I was packing up, I remembered the last note. I had no idea why this person wanted to meet me in secret, but curiosity was eating me alive.
With a sigh, I found myself heading toward the rooftop stairs. My mind was spinning with ridiculous scenarios. What if he’s planning to kill me? No one will know. My body will never be found. It’ll rot away up there, and my soul will never rest. I shook my head to chase away the negativity.
Pushing the rooftop door open, I scanned the area—empty. Then I saw him. Kuroo Tetsurou. Volleyball in hand. Damn that prankster. Did he want me dead by his fangirls?
“I’m sorry for disturbing,” I blurted, already turning to leave when he said,
“Don’t leave.” I froze and looked back. Did I hear that right?
“I’m sorry if I disturbed you,” I said quickly. “Someone left a note in my locker telling me to meet him here.” He smiled, and for a moment, the world stopped. Was I hallucinating?
“I know,” he said, pulling something from his pocket. My eyes widened, it was the note I’d tossed in the trash. “This… and all the others? They were from me.”
My hands went cold, and my heart started pounding. Kuroo was the prankster? What was his problem with me?
“Stop pranking me, then,” I managed to say, surprisingly calm. He chuckled.
“Who said I’m pranking you?” Smirking, he walked toward me. I stepped back until my shoulders hit the wall. My pulse was racing. Is he going to kill me now?
“W-What are you doing?” I stammered. He cupped my cheeks. My brain short-circuited.
Before I could say another word, his lips brushed mine, just for a second. But it was enough to make the world stand still. When he pulled away, I was frozen, still processing what had just happened.
“I like you, Kenma,” he said softly, flashing me the sweetest smile I’d ever seen. “I’ve liked you for a while now.”
