She wanted to say she had dealt with the loss of her team well. After all, that's what everyone wanted to hear. Nobody wanted to sit on the floor with her when she had a breakdown in her office, tell her to take a day off, tell her it was going to be okay. Because that wasn't true. She would never be the same again.
She had gotten back every memory, and the pain seemed to bring them back with more force and detail. She could remember every little thing about everyone on her old team; their voice, their smile, their laugh. She had spent a week desperately wishing for all of these back, but now that she knew what she had lost... she wished she could just bang her head into the wall and lose them all again.
She was famous now, but she didn't want it. 'Emily Prentiss, sole survivor of mafia attack. Her whole team is dead, but hey, since she's alive, she must desperately want to be noticed for it!' Nothing could have been more false.
She kept her job at the BAU. She didn't know why, and if anyone asked her why, she knew she wouldn't have an answer.
She was about to meet her new team.
"Unit Chief Emily Prentiss." Strauss said, introducing her to the last second team. "Meet your new team: Agents Luke Alvez, Matt Simmons, Kate Callahan, and Doctors Alex Blake and Tara Lewis. I hope you all get along well."
Emily nodded at her team. "It's good to meet you all. I'm looking forward to working with all of you."
"Welcome back to the BAU, Agent Prentiss. I wish you luck with this team." Strauss left the room.
An unfamiliar man hurried into the room. "I found a case I really think we should consider, it's pretty weird."
The BAU would never stop being busy, especially to Unit Chief Prentiss.
Now she knew why Hotch barely ever smiled.
