Levi's POV

15 Years Later...

"I got it!" Petra shouts to me when the door rang.

"Thanks," I say to her, finishing up on the latest paperwork I had to finish. Minutes passed when I didn't hear from Petra again. So, I called out her name. "Petra? What's going on?" I walked to the front door, seeing Petra in the doorway. "Petra?"

She turns around, revealing someone who looked completely familiar. Dark brown hair and caramel eyes. The only difference was that she didn't have glasses. That and her hair wasn't in a ponytail. Just seeing that girl pierced my heart like bullets.

"Levi, this girl says she wants to talk to you." Her eyebrows rose slightly. "Do you know this person?"

"Of course not." Even though she looked like Hanji. "Listen, I don't know who you are-."

"But you're Levi, right? Levi Ackerman?"

"Yes, that's me." My ears burned red with embarrassment. "But I still don't know who you are."

The girl sighed, fumbling with her fingers. "My name is Iris. Iris Smith. I just wanted to talk to you about my mother. You know her, right?" I was about to deny it again, but she spoke of her name. "My mother's name is Hanji. Hanji Smith."

"So that's her last name..." I whispered, shaking my head. "What about her? She doesn't live here. And I have no business with that woman anymore. Now please, get off of my property."

The girl, Iris, stepped up to the porch closer. Petra gave a quiet word to her, stopping her from entering my house. "Please, this is important to me-."

Then, I just snapped. I turned around and had this sort of evil beast get unleashed. Was I... too angry at Hanji for leaving me that night? "I don't give a damn about that woman, Iris! If you want to know more about her- why don't you go and find some of your mother's closest friends and find out from them?! I don't want you or that woman near me ever again! Do you understand?!"

I saw tears coming from her eyes when I yelled at her. "Levi- at least hear her out..." Petra says softly, allowing the girl to enter my house. "Just listen... please?"

"I'll explain everything to you later, Petra." I pointed to the girl with anger still fueling my flames. "But I do not want her near me. Nor do I want her mother near me or you. I had enough of her." Turning around, I wanted to get a drink of my black tea to calm myself down. The girl spoke to me one last time that finally got me to turn around.

"Dad, just... listen... please..."

"What did you call me?"

The girl continued to cry as Petra stared at me in horror. "Y-You're my dad... and... I had to come to you... please..."

"I'm not your dad."

"But you are! You're Levi Ackerman, right?! You took care of my mom when she ran away from my father's proposal. I mean... technically... he's my stepfather.. since you're my real father."

"Yes, I took care of her. But that doesn't mean-."

"I was born 9 months after she slept with you. To my stepfather, it was only 8 months or so. No one was suspicious about anything. Everyone... they all thought I was their daughter. But to ensure I got my stepfather's inheritance, they did a DNA test on me and compared it to him. I shared nothing in common with him. I... I overheard my mom's conversation with him... she met you..."

Petra walked over to me, hugging me tightly. "Levi-."

"I'm not the father of her."

"Well, it doesn't hurt to test your DNA against hers, right? Just do that. And if it's not true, then Iris, right? Iris has to go back home."

"But I can't go home!" She cries aloud, wiping her tears. "My... grandma... on my stepfather's side... she won't let me stay. She says I'm an impostor. She was going to send me to an orphanage and force my mom to have a child with my stepfather..."

Petra, without hesitance, ran to the freezer and took out her special stash of chocolate ice cream. "Sit down, Iris, and we'll talk, okay?" She gave Iris the carton before she gave me a glare. "Let's just hear her out first, okay, Levi? But... she's so young, she can stay in the guest room just for now."

"What? No!"

Petra raised her ring finger to me, showing off the ring I proposed to her with. "Levi, you proposed to me a month ago. And I know we're still busy with our jobs and we put off the marriage plans, but we are going to get married. And I have the right to also say something. If I'm to be married to you, technically she's my stepdaughter-."

"If she's my child." I corrected her. "And I don't want to believe that she's mine-."

Petra shot me another glare. "Levi, please." I only rolled my eyes, shaking my head in defiance. Petra went through the kitchen drawers, fishing out a spoon or two and handing it to the girl. "Here, it's okay, you can eat it while you talk to us, okay? We're here for you."

Iris wiped her tears, not touching the ice cream.

"Why is your grandma threatening that?" Petra asked in such a motherly tone.

"She... the Smith family is one of those... not exactly... royal families... but close enough. And... it was an arranged marriage between my mother and my stepfather. Mom didn't... want to be dragged into it. Her family kept... saying she had to because it was rude. And if my mom rejected him... they would've put her and her family in debt..."

From Hanji's letter that she left to me that night, was that what she was referring to?

"And... she just... ran. Everyone was scared because it started raining that night. It wasn't until days later, she said she found someone and was staying with them until she changed her mind. Months... later... she... came back and accepted my stepfather's proposal. They got married... and my stepfather... he thought I was his..."

"But still, I don't understand why-."

"Only the ones with the Smith blood can inherit the inheritance. And since... I'm not the right daughter... I can't have the inheritance. She wants the family... pure..."

Petra wrapped her arms around the girl, comforting her. "There, there, it'll be alright, okay? We got you right now."

With a heavy sigh, I gave in. I love Petra... and I'll do what I can to make her not angry at me. "Fine, fine..." I raised my hands in defeat. "Fine, I'll take the paternity test. But I'm directly taking it to wherever it needs to be sent. I do not trust anyone who handles my test except me."

My fiancee smiled at me and began to rub the girl's back. "I have some clothes if you'll like if you're gonna stay for awhile. Want to call your parents-."

"No... no, I don't..." The girl then looked at me with saddened eyes. "He's my dad... so there's nothing wrong with that..."

What did I get myself into?
