I barely knew Kakashi from his ANBU days, but in the little time we had together, he was always late to our meetings. So I decided not to wait around for him. Taking in the slight chill of the morning and the early sun rays, I enjoyed my walk around the village. The shops were opening, making it nice and quiet. I had never willingly been out here this early, so it was a nice change.
I stopped when I noticed a brightly colored flower, picked it up, and smelled it, enjoying the happiness it brought me. I looked up to see the shop owner staring at me.
"How much?" I asked, holding the single flower.
"Just take it, kid. It won't take much to replace it." I smiled at the man, happy, slightly annoyed but happy. Why does everyone call me 'kid', like I'm three or something? Either way, I continued to walk with my flower. Finally making my way over to the training grounds, I heard my team before I saw them, loudly complaining about how late Kakashi and I were. Once they saw me coming to them, they started in on me.
"Kiana! You're late!" They both shouted in my face. I blinked at them.
"I didn't even know where the training ground was. I was lost." They blinked back at me, slowly processing my words.
"Right," Naruto said, scratching the back of his neck nervously. They literally forgot that I'm 'new' to the village.
"Where did you get that?" Sakura suddenly said looking down at the flower in my hands. I blinked again at her, smiling softly.
"A nice shop owner gave it to me," was the only explanation I was willing to give.
"Oh it's beautiful. Daffodils are so pretty," I paused, my heart beating fast. He did say to make friends.
"They are my favorite," I whispered, looking down at the flower, not liking the fact that I'm being so open about it all.
"Hi, everyone!" Kakashi suddenly said, coming out of nowhere. Sakura and Naruto immediately went on the attack.
"You're late!" They both screamed.
"Sorry about that, I just got lost on the path of life," I rolled my eyes at his lame excuse.
"Liar!" They shouted again, with how much Sakura hates Naruto, they sure are similar.
"Well anyways, today we are going to be doing a survival training exercise," he set an alarm on one of the three posts, "You have until noon to get one of these bells from me." He held up three bells and then tied them to his belt. "You must use everything you got. If you don't come at me with the intent to kill, you will not get a bell. Those who don't get a bell by noon get tied to one of those posts and will not get lunch. Oh, and I'll eat my lunch in front of you." He smiled at us, Kakashi's bell test.
I've heard a lot about this. I wonder if we don't pass, the Hokage will reinstate me as an ANBU black op. Now that's a thought I could get behind.
"But, sensei, there are four of us, and you only have three bells," Sakura just had to ask. I smirked over at her, knowing that she could easily figure this out. But... I doubted she would.
"Yes, well a normal team is three members. So, whoever doesn't get a bell by noon will be sent back to the academy," Naruto suddenly enraged, darted at Kakashi, kunai drawn. Kakashi, of course, blocked him, spun him around, and threw him on the ground. "Slow down there Naruto. I haven't even said start yet. But you're coming at me with intent to kill. I'm starting to like you guys."
"Uh, Kakashi," I called out hesitantly, placing my flower on the ground behind me.
"Yes, Kiana," he answered, looking up from Naruto, raising an eyebrow at me.
