It has been a month since her Mija got back from summer camp and started school again. She had second thoughts about that camp , but Luz suddenly went missing for a while, but it was suddenly reported to have showed up at camp.

Good news school started,

Camila heard, Luz's grades had improved and she behaved like a good student......not sneaking in the nearest zoo and talking to owls or setting something on fire by accident with a prank.

That made the Dominican-American mother smile... at first. While it always nice to hear your child doing well in school, but after a while it gave Camila pause. She thought it strange that Luz has been acting so...Different?

She missed Luz's hyper energy, her passion for azura books... her light of her life......And after Luz returned home, Camila wanted to give her a hug but Luz completely shook her off by saying she was tired and wanted to go to bed early.

It's been a week and a half, Luz hasn't engaged Camila in talking about Azura or some other fantasy of hers, or ask why all her favorite stuff animals are missing, posters and azura themed bed sheets.

.....It's true that Camila wanted Luz to tone down her imagination, but it appears that Luz has forgone it entirely, she has been quiet......more emotionless.

Dinner time.

"....So...Luz when do I get to meet your birth parents?

Fake Luz was taken aback by that as confusion quickly took over her face. "Uh, um, yes of course.... Yes. Um, how'd you know this mamá?"

Now it was Camila's turn to look confused. "What do you mean? You called me one day you met them all excited and you making new friends. And Well, this Amity person wasn't a friend at the time, but you said you two became friends eventually right?"

"Right, from our phone conversations. I remember now," Luz said, though she clearly still surprised by the whole thing. It was then that Camila realized something..was..wrong.

After dinner.

Camila insisted for Luz to join her on the couch to watch for one of her daughters favorite owl documentaries.

Narrator: "And we have a male barn owl offering a fat mouse to his mate and children."

They watch the whole thing in comfortable silence and after an emotional finale, luckily Luz has a box of tissues ready for her.

Narrator: it's been a half a year and we are proud to watch a new generation of chicks grow up.

"Here mother." Luz's fake smiles at her and Camila can't help but grin at her daughter's kindness.

"Thank you Luz. You always know what to do."

Morning arrived and things were still different.

"I know your birthday isn't until Halloween, but I want you to have this." Camila said taking out the gift from the closet and placed it in Luz's hands.

The entire room went silent as Luz just stared at the 6th Azura book in her hand. Camila's smile quickly feel as her daughter showed no excitement....just emotionless from holding the latest installment of her favorite series.

"I, need go to school mother." Luz placed the book on the coffee table and practically walked to the door. "The bus will be here soon. I don't want to be late."

"But Luz, isn't this the gift you always wanted?"

"Isn't that why you sent me away though? So that i would come back different?" Fake Luz emotionless spoke before getting in the school bus.

Hours later, Camila just sat in the living room forgetting she had a shift , in silence. Her tears had long since dried out and now all she could do is replay the entire disastrous conversation in her head trying to figure out what..went...wrong?

"I need to fix this!"
