Cheating

I left Regulus on the second day of vacation, a few days before Christmas.

I took the chimney system back to my house. When I got there Harry was on the ground playing with some toys.

"Hey there little guy" I said smiling as I picked up my son.

He smiled when looking up at me and I held him tightly. I loved being a father.

Lily walked out of the kitchen and raced over to kiss me. I kissed her back while putting Harry on my side.

"How are you?" I asked as I followed her back to the kitchen.

"Harry's doing great but I've been sick these last few days. I'm scared he'll get it too. What about you?" She said sitting back at the table.

"Great. Happy to be back and have a break from teaching. I love it but I miss my family a lot" I said bouncing Harry up and down on my lap.

"We missed you too. Especially him, he keeps pushing me away and looking around for you." She said smiling at the boy in my arms.

"I'm really sorry I haven't been around to help at all. I feel super guilty for leaving you" I played. It was oddly easy to lie to her.

"It's fine James. My parents come around often and Dorcas and Marlene came by the other day to distract me."

"You let Marlene Mckinnon hold my child" I said deadpanning.

"Not really, Dorcas was holding him and Marlene held his hand. I was paying very close attention to them. I would never trust her alone with him" She replied quickly.

"Oh thank god" I breathed out.

"Talking about bad people to see our child, Sirius offered to have us over. He hasn't seen Harry since October and he is his godfather. Can we please, pretty please go?" I asked giving her puppy dog eyes.

"Only if you agree to go to my sisters for 4hours at least" I thought about it for a minute but 4 hours of pure torture was worth seeing Regulus for an evening.

"Fine but we go see my parents before the end of vacation since we're spending Christmas day with yours" I said.

"Fine, yes okay" She agreed to.

We continued talking for a while until Harry fell asleep in my arms and I went to put him in his crib and take a shower.

Whilst in the shower, I heard Lily open the door and run to the toilet and puke. I asked if she was okay and she said she was, so I continued showering.

I got out and slipped on some clothes before going to see her in bed.

"Are you really okay?" I asked.

"I don't have a fever but everything I eat comes back up."

"How long has it been?" I asked worried.

"A few days, almost a week" She replied.

"Okay well, I'll bring you to the doctors tomorrow if you aren't better. Stay in bed for now, I'll make dinner and take care of Harry" I said before kissing her forehead and going back downstairs.

I wrote to Sirius and told him we'd come by Wednesday. It was Sunday today.

I heard Harry crying upstairs so I went to go take care of him. I definitely had a cute son I'll give him that.

The next day, Lily was still sick so I brought her to the doctors office but waited in the car to not risk Harry catching something in the waiting room.
