Attack

The following few days of the break were spent resting, preparing the nursery and in my case, getting a divorce lawyer.

Lily had infact gone to the ministry and said I stole our child but when I explained the situation they agreed with me.

Usually they would trust the mother, especially since she was staying home with him before. But they ran DNA tests on the fetus and found that it was infact not my child but the criminals. They deemed it child endangerment to have a criminal and sex offender in the same house as an infant that isn't his own.

So for the time being I had complete care of Harry. She also would be inspected once every other month for the first 4 years of her new child's life to make sure it wasn't in danger. That made her reluctant to fight for more rights.

I felt bad for her so asked if it would be possible for Harry to see her at least once a month if I stay with him. They were surprised by my request but agreed to it.

Today was my last day before school started again. Regulus and I were busy packing up our bags and spending time with Harry. We went out to the park all 5 of us since it was surprisingly warm for January.

While walking I started feeling watched. I looked around but couldn't see anyone so didn't panic too much. We were walking on the side walk when I heard magic and immediately held out my wand with a blocking spell. Saving our lives.

We all immediately got our wands out and Sirius went out first guessing the attack was for him. I was scared for Harry but he seemed clueless to what was happening thankfully.

"We need to get back to the house" Regulus said taking my hand.

"Go with Remus, I need to help Sirius" I said while handing Harry to Remus and letting them run home.

I ran to Sirius' side and we stood back to back as death eaters apparated around us.

"The ministry will be here any second now. You better leave before they do!" Sirius yelled out to them, causing them to laugh.

"We're here for Potter and won't leave without him" One of them said.

"My son?!" I said in shock.

"No, no don't be crazy. Just you. Master only wants you" A lady said coming closer to me.

I shot her back with a spell before all the others started shooting spells directed towards me. I hadn't fought in the war and I hadn't dueled in a while. Sirius definitely saved my life that day.

We were able to send out 3 binding spells and one petrification spell before the ministry arrived and took the others.

"Sirius, isn't it your day off?" Of the the people from the ministry asked.

"I'm not on the job. We just got attacked while walking. This is my friend James Potter" Sirius explained.

"You don't happen to be a professor at Hogwarts do you?" He asked me.

"I am, defense against the dark arts. Why?" I replied slightly confused.

"My daughter won't stop talking about you. She's a 3rd year and before your classes, she struggled a lot in attack and defense, she could only do charms. So thank you for teaching her" He explained.

"Oh, um, you're welcome. All my students are good as long as they're motivated to try. But I wish her luck with the new term since the year 3 level is getting higher." I replied with a smile.

"I'll make sure she's still working. Anyway we should be off now. Sorry they attacked you. Is there any reason why?" He asked.

"I recently divorced my wife and her new partner is a death eater. That might be why but they called him master. I'm not too sure"
