Tw: Mentions of Suicide

Ember was looking forward to getting high with Sapnap, but she would never admit it. She would also never admit that she added his contact last night, and spent nearly 8 minutes contemplating what to say. She didn't say anything, in the end.

When he showed up to their usual spot, Ember didn't hide. She met him with a smirk and cut straight to the point.

The high Ember endured was unlike anything nicotine could have ever provided. Her cigarettes shoved her problems into a closet, whereas the weed took the problems away. With Sapnap's help, she didn't green out and maintained a tolerable amount.

Sapnap and Ember met every night for two weeks. It didn't take long for them to feel safe around each other. Maybe it was the drug talking, but they got along easily and genuinely enjoyed the company.

It was nights like these when Ember's mouth took control of her mind, and words often came spewing out like gas from a broken tank.

"Got any secrets for me, Sapnap?" She asked, stretching out the S.

Sapnap traced a finger across the smooth concrete. "Uh lets see. I live in Texas but I'm here with a friend for a while. Oh also I'm a famous YouTuber."

This sent Ember over the edge. She cackled, low and slow, clearly not believing what she heard. Her head swung back and forth between snorts. "Yeah right. And I'm a billionaire."

Sapnap decided to brush it off.

"What about you, Ms.Lark? Got any secrets worth my time?"

"Well I got quite a few, but I'll tell a story that covers most of it," she said, repositioning on the ground and not hesitating. "My mom died when I was 11, some type of cancer I don't know the name of. My dad tried to raise me on his own but he was so desperately depressed, it felt like I never had a dad. He would lay in bed for days at a time, once I remember he locked me out and didn't have the energy to let me in so I spent the night outside. About 5 years later, he couldn't take it anymore. They found his body on my mother's grave. There was absolutely nothing left for me except a tiny, two room apartment and I sold off most of the furniture to pay for drugs. Oh, and my boyfriend, Daryn dumped me."

Sapnap let out a whistle that got mostly subdued by smoke.

"Not a very sheesh moment...?"

"Definitely not."

They stopped talking for a few minutes, just laying in the peace of the stars. Sapnap made a silent vow to never let her pay for her own drugs, ever again.

Ember let our her truths so easily, and she couldn't fathom why. She never let herself look vulnerable, and never let anyone take pity on her. So why was it different with Sapnap? Was she really just this comfortable with him? Or was she too high to control anything she said?

As Ember lay in bed that night, (or should I say morning?) on her thin mattress and sheet, her phone buzzed on the floor beside her. No one ever texted her, the only contacts she had were plugs.

So Ember dragged her body to a sitting position and opened her phone. The brightness was way to high, and she had to squint to make out the text.
